October 23rd will be an extra special night.
This year, the Fred & Nancy DeMatteis Award recipient is truly one of our own. Rob Brown grew up in care at St. Vincent's. He was in the American Dream Program (ADP). He excelled; he went on to Amherst. He already has had a stellar acting career and is now an NFL agent. He has a beautiful, growing family. And he is coming home. Not only is he coming home to celebrate on October 23rd, but he's also coming home to share his experience, impart wisdom and help us build a network to support other alumni from St. Vincent's.
Rob is undoubtedly a shining star of ADP, but there are so many more. So many youths have passed through the halls of St. Vincent's, found stability, uncovered belief, and conquered both challenges and dreams. It's incredible - but I'm not surprised.
I'm also so excited to honor Hannah Pennington from the Manhattan DA's office. A dedicated public servant, she is doing the tough work - day-in and day-out - fighting for many of the same people that we support. As Deputy Chief of Gender-Based Violence Policy in the Special Victims Division of the Manhattan District Attorney's Office she is improving systems and implementing programs that help victims find justice, heal - and to tie it back to our theme - repair their idea of home.
This evening will be a homecoming celebration of epic proportions. We will come together to applaud our honorees, raise some money, connect with new & old friends - and officially kick off the process of building an even stronger network for our youth, so that they can thrive like Rob.
I hope you'll join us!
