Learn from Houston native and quickly-rising TV star Savannah May, who shined on the TUTS stage before making it big on Nickelodeon, Netflix and the silver screen! She was most recently seen in Julie and the Phantoms (by executive producer & director- Kenny Ortega of High School Musical and Descendants), the Lifetime original movie The Secret Lives of Cheerleaders, and Knight Squad on Nickelodeon. Savannah is offering a Q&A session for up to 8 students who might be interested in how musical theatre can help you make it to the TV or silver screen! Savannah was a star on many Houston theatre stages growing up as a musical theatre kid. After high school, she got an opportunity to transition to the TV/Film world and is passionate about giving back and sharing her experiences with others who have a passion for performing! Your student will appreciate the time and attention from this friendly, giving, bright, big-spirited performer who is excited to share her experiences and advice on performing in the TV/Film world and how to successfully make that transition. Explore singing, acting, and dancing all through the lens of musical theatre storytelling. iTheatrics, associated with MTI, is the founder and host of the annual Junior Theatre Festival (JTF) which has hosted such talent as Tony winner Ben Platt, Tony award-winning composers Pasek & Paul, Andrew Keenan-Bolger, Darren Criss and Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett (of HSMTMTS). JTF hosts students from theaters around the country with the goal of providing young people access to quality musical theater training and valuable feedback on performing.
A little about your master teachers:i
Daniel Mertzlufft is a classically trained composer, arranger, music director, songwriter and TikTok influencer based in New York City. He is most known for his viral sensations The Thanksgiving Musical on The Late Late Show with James Corden featuring Audra McDonald, Patti LuPone, Josh Gad, Josh Groban, and Kristin Chenoweth, as well as his arrangement of "Remy The Ratatouille" by Emily Jacobson that launched the TikTok Ratatouille musical movement, and The Grocery Store Musical, featured on ABC's Good Morning America among other outlets, which is an arrangement of Lousia Melcher's "New York Summer." Daniel was also recently a creative leader for Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical, a livestreamed concert produced by Tony-winning Seaview Productions that raised over $2 million for The Actor's Fund.
Music Direction credits include Off-Broadway: Sistas, 54 Below Sings - ABBA, Ariana Grande, Pop Hits of the 2000s, The Jonas Brothers.
Arrangement & Orchestration credits are extensive and include The Big One Oh! (Off-Broadway - additional arrangements and underscoring), "Children Will Listen" by Stephen Sondheim, and "Rainbow Connection" by Paul Williams.
As an educator, he leads workshops at the International Junior Theater Festivals, Junior Theater Celebrations throughout the United States, and specialized music workshops for the Shubert Foundation and the NYC Department of Education. Daniel also graduated valedictorian from The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam and is mentored by Dean Pitchford. Born in Florida, Daniel has also lived in Germany, Las Vegas, and spent his formative years in Buffalo, New York before moving to New York City.
Jiana Odland grew up just outside of Chicago, Illinois and was immediately absorbed into the world of musical theatre at the age of six. Ten years later, at the age of 16, she met the fine folks at iTheatrics. She has since been working in performance, lighting and audio design, stage management, and directing. Jiana then spent four years touring North America, Europe, and Asia as a performer and musical theatre teacher. Recently, she has helped produce live events for major companies across America. Jiana is thrilled to have found her way back to iTheatrics as an Education Associate and is so grateful for the opportunity to keep sharing musical theatre with the world.
