Jennifer just loves to create! If she's not in the kitchen working on recipes then she's doing some sort of craft. She has learned several crafts from watching videos and taken a few classes. Anyone that knows her knows she can not set still and her mind never shuts off.

Les Paul

From the smooth chords of jazz to screaming solos of rock, the Les Paul Standard has been a guitar of choice for musicians of all genres of music. Its timeless beauty brings back songs and styles from generations past to generations to come.

My design will be to create a 1958 Les Paul Standard guitar. I will be adding an aluminum neck to the guitar to be welded to the underside butterfly body. I plan to use real guitar parts as much as possible as well as adding strings. I would like to request a 2'x2' size butterfly as this would lend itself best to the guitar's actual size.

Rich Leonard has been a resident of Fountain Hills for just over four years. He enjoys playing music, both guitar and lately drums. He is an accountant by trade but enjoys expanding his creative side whenever possible.

Crystal is a retired dentist, having practiced on Chicago's Michigan Avenue for 35 years. I have been an art collector for my entire career, and always attended galleries and shows when I traveled for work and meetings. The city of Chicago is rich with art and architecture as well.
In my spare time I took courses at the Art institute of Chicago. After we moved to Fountain Hills I took numerous courses at the Mesa Art Center. Currently, my encaustic work can be seen at Estate Interiors.

"Stoned" is an intricately designed masterpiece that embodies the spirit of Arizona, brought to life by Sami Jack, the visionary behind Sami Fine Jewelry. This creation beautifully captures the essence of the American Southwest. "Stoned" was designed to remind you to open your heart and mind like the wings of a butterfly and see how high you can truly fly.

Sami draws inspiration from her father, Buddy Keith, who nurtured her deep appreciation for Arizona gemstones. The butterfly design in "Stoned" showcases turquoise pieces expertly cut and polished by Buddy, intricately fashioned into the butterfly's wings, alongside some of his other beloved gems.

Sami Jack, the founder of Sami's, started her career selling jewelry in her bikini on the beaches of Daytona Beach, Florida. At the time she was mostly selling Indian jewelry, and there was a major demand for it all over the United States. She soon built her popularity, carrying turquoise into a unique traveling business, which included selling to airports all over the southwest. This is where she fell in love with our beautiful desert and decided to set roots in Scottsdale, Arizona. In 1980, she had a beautiful daughter named Stephenie. In 2001 Sami saw the opportunity to break ground on her dream store. In 2002 this dream became a reality, Sami Fine Jewelry opened its doors on the Avenue of the Fountains. Boasting a new look, and 3600 square feet to boot! Sami and her daughter Stephanie have turned Sami Fine jewelry into a one of a kind "fun" store with its own active place in the Fountain Hills community.

Desert Darling

The roadrunner made famous in cartoons as he is pursued by the coyote is wily and fast. His coloring, really quite bland. I decided to upgrade his look with other colors of the desert to also make him spectacular.

Artistic and creative activities have been a passion of mine sine my first box of Crayola Crayons. In my retirement I have actualized this passion. I was an early member of the Fountain Hills Art League. I work in oil, watercolor and acrylic mediums. I do fine art as well as craft-inspired work. Previously I was a partner in "For the Birds," a bird house business featuring my butterfly work with most sales in Jackson, Wyoming. I also had pieces in a Alpine, Wyoming, gallery. Most of my sales have been private or commissioned.

Ode to the Night Butterfly

Wild Paint Colors, Vibrant

The accomplished artist, whose unique work is featured in countless corporate and private collections throughout the United States, said he's never at a loss for inspiration.

"Color makes the piece; I'm just the manager," Jack said as he explained his painting technique which is full of light and texture. "I use colors that work together and watch as they push and pull to interact with each other. I like to build things up and move them around. I love to see spontaneous color patterns develop."

Jack, whose given name is John, said he's been an artist since the 10th grade. He received a Bachelor of Science degree, with a major in Art Education, from the University of Wisconsin Stout and a Masters Degree of Fine Arts, majoring in painting, from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

Following a collegiate teaching career in Wisconsin and Colorado, Jack went to work for FedEx, where he retired from in 2012. Now he paints every day in his garage, a make-shift studio where old buckets of paint line the shelves and works in progress are errantly stacked just outside the border of a paint-splattered floor. Even his backyard is full of magic and color, dense with a vegetable garden, bird baths, a hand-built chiminea with bricks from his mother's home, and a real tortoise named Sunburst.

"I've been here 20 years. This town inspires me. I enjoy this town and its people."

Rainbows in the Salt River

I have spent a lot of time kayaking the Salt River often watching the horses, but one day I was mesmerized by the rainbow trout I saw darting around my kayak.

The rainbow trout that live in the Salt River are fun and elusive spirits of the river. While the horses grace the shores of the river, the rainbow trout play in the eelgrass and hide in the rocks as the tubers and kayakers float by.

I think, live, play, and am inspired by color! I cherish the colors of things in nature and surround myself in color. Along with color, I have always had a connection with animals; in particular, dogs and horses. It only made sense combining them to create a happy, energetic, touching and telling portraits of animals.
When I look at animals, I see colors that I want to use to make them come alive in an energetic and spirited way.
Living in the Southwest has also given me a deeper appreciation for the intense colors of the desert and the Western way of life. I have enjoyed exhibiting at the Fountain Hills Artist Gallery in Fountain Hills, Arizona.

Desert Monarch

The "Desert Monarch" butterfly captures the beauty of the desert, featuring the pricky pear cactus at sunset, which is one of the most beautiful times to view the desert landscapes. While the top of the butterfly is more of a serious painting with soft colors, the bottom is a fun pop of color which showcases the dots and variety of colors that a Monarch Butterfly can have.

The "Desert Monarch" butterfly was inspired by the uniquely stunning sunsets experienced in Arizona, which feature a large variety of everchanging colors and patterns. This concept captures the essence of our beautiful state by featuring a pricky pear cactus, one of the most beautiful and common types of cacti seen in the desert, and one of the most colorful. The bottom side was inspired by Monarch butterflies, which come in a variety of colors, and are known for their dotted patterns.

I am in nursing school full time at ASU and will graduate in December 2024 with my BSN. I am a multi-media, self-taught artist
who has worked with acrylic, watercolor, charcoal, freestyle diamond art, resin, and 3D model art. I currently enjoy knitting and
sewing clothing, especially dresses. My artwork varies, but I mostly enjoy painting landscapes and plants. I also love combining
different mediums to create unique and multi-dimensional artwork.

Multiplicity

Colorful, Diverse, 3-dimensional (multifaceted). Reflects diversity we see in nature and the natural world of color and patterns.

As with my 2022 butterfly (Mathmatica), my 2023 butterfly derives from the connection between mathematics and art and nature. Multiplicity (i.e., the number of times a member is repeated in a set or a multiset) reflects the repetition of patterns that we see in nature juxtaposed with the diversity of nature. The combination of repeating and divergent members of the set create an interesting 3D surface affect that the artist hopes will inspire viewers to recognize the importance of "being different" as it contributes to a greater community.

Metal sculptor Tracy Paul-Rossman has a deep appreciation for mathematics. She completed her graduate work at Arizona State University in a consortium of the university's physics, chemistry, and Earth science departments.
But she is equally passionate about art and nature and the ways that mathematics are infused into and subtly expressed by both. For the last 25 years welding metal sculpture as been a focus of Tracy's life.
She loves the calculus of fabrication and her background in chemistry delights in the patina of metal surfaces.
Tracy's current body of metal work includes desert flora and fauna in representational as well as in spiritual and mythical casts

An artist all her life, it was in 2010 during a special week-long mentoring session in Taos, New Mexico that ignited her passion for abstracts. "My work is a collection of places, feelings of color, light and dark, movement and stillness that I translate into non-representational abstracts."

Blood Moon

Blood Moon's inspiration was based off the darkness of the night sky and specifically named after the "blood moon" which is the event of a full lunar eclipse.
I would also like this piece to represent the importance of preserving and learning about the night sky.

Vanadinite forms as a secondary mineral through the alteration and oxidation of primary lead ore deposits in the presence of vanadium-rich solutions. Its occurrence is closely tied to specific geological conditions, including the presence of lead minerals, weathering processes, and the influx of vanadium-bearing fluids. The resulting vibrant red crystals of vanadinite make it a SOUGHT AFTER mineral specimen among collectors and a fascinating subject of study in geology and mineralogy.

When I made my amethyst butterflies last year I saw this type of stone in a rock shop and it caught my eye as a beauty.

A professional muralist for 40 years, she has received top prizes in the FH/Foothills Juried Shows and several art history scholarships from ASU. She studied scenic art at Cobalt (NY) and drawing at the Scottsdale Artists' School. She is an AriZoni nominated scenic artist, and has rendered over 80 productions. She has taught painting aboard Crystal Cruises, for her peers at IDAL, and K-12 as a certified substitute. She recently served as the Resident Artist at an 8-star resort in Tuscany. Vincent Van Gogh's "Starry Night" painting is one of the most recognizable pieces of art in the world. But if he were to paint that scene as he would see it today, it probably wouldn't have any stars in it. Eighty percent of the world's population can no longer see the Milky Way from where they live. Between the loss of the starry night and staying indoors in front of our screens at night, we've lost our connection to the night sky. I want to inspire people to fall in love with the dark and to seek starry night experiences.

Vincent reminds us to "Fall in Love with the Dark". He reminds us that when we slow down and spend time gazing into the cosmos, it puts our own lives into perspective and stirs up a deep sense of awe. We all need more awe in our lives.

Vicky Derksen is a stargazing expert and dark sky advocate. Growing up in northern Idaho, she thought everyone everywhere could see the Milky Way. She was astonished when she moved to Phoenix and saw a gray night sky. When she moved to Fountain Hills, she had a deeper appreciation for the stars and wanted her kids to grow up with knowledge of the night sky. She is the founder of Night Sky Tourist where she hosts a podcast, leads stargazing experiences, and is writing a book. She's the president of the Fountain Hills Dark Sky Association and serves on the board of the International Dark Sky Discovery Center.
She's also an advocate with Dark Sky International.

Lilac Swallowtail

The "Lilac Swallowtail" butterfly pays tribute to the lilac flowers where different types of Swallowtail butterflies feed, creating an ecosystem of beautiful flowers that help other organisms survive. The two plants, in contrast with the black background and white accents, create a pop of color. The bottom is designed to be a representation of the different pieces of nature fitting together to create a perfect balance where everyone has a place.

The "Lilac Swallowtail" butterfly was inspired by a painting I did a couple of years ago of a blue lilac plant made completely out
of dots, which gives the painting an interesting ombre effect that makes it stand out. Lilacs are also a food source for butterflies,
which is why they will be the main feature of the top of the butterfly. To continue the theme of nature being intertwined on the
bottom, there will be a geometric pattern with a variety of blue, green, and purple pieces that show how everything fits together
to create one lasting picture.

I am in nursing school full time at ASU and will graduate in December 2024 with my BSN. I am a multi-media, self-taught artist
who has worked with acrylic, watercolor, charcoal, freestyle diamond art, resin, and 3D model art. I currently enjoy knitting and sewing clothing, especially dresses. My artwork varies, but I mostly enjoy painting landscapes and plants. I also love combining different mediums to create unique and multi-dimensional artwork.

Jack, the accomplished artist, whose unique work is featured in countless corporate and private collections throughout the United States, said he's never at a loss for inspiration.

"Color makes the piece; I'm just the manager," Jack said as he explained his painting technique which is full of light and texture. "I use colors that work together and watch as they push and pull to interact with each other. I like to build things up and move them around. I love to see spontaneous color patterns develop."

Jack, whose given name is John, said he's been an artist since the 10th grade. He received a Bachelor of Science degree, with a major in Art Education, from the University of Wisconsin Stout and a Masters Degree of Fine Arts, majoring in painting, from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

Following a collegiate teaching career in Wisconsin and Colorado, Jack went to work for FedEx, where he retired from in 2012. Now he paints every day in his garage, a make-shift studio where old buckets of paint line the shelves and works in progress are errantly stacked just outside the border of a paint-splattered floor. Even his backyard is full of magic and color, dense with a vegetable garden, bird baths, a hand-built chiminea with bricks from his mother's home, and a real tortoise named Sunburst.
