"Byron Temple is internationally recognized for his unpretentious ceramic works. He had been an apprentice of English potter Bernard Leach, and this clearly influenced his concept and philosophy of ceramics. He liked to define himself as a production potter. He used basic designs which he dominated to perfection. This permitted him to explore intensely the fundamental qualities of the form and its expression. He described his work as "sleek and slim" with "simple lines" and "marks left exposed," he considered this to be "a combination of Bauhaus and Japan." Temple influenced generations of potters with classes and workshops at schools ranging from Pennland and Haystack to the Pratt Institute and Philadelphia College of Art. He has worked all over the world, including Australia, New Zealand, Spain, and Japan.
Temple's production reached as many as 10,000 pieces a year. His pottery is unmistakably handcrafted, bearing the marks of the artists touch or the cutting wire where the pot has been removed from the wheel. "I am interested in pottery that make connections to the human figure. The figurative analogies used to describe pots throughout history all in some way invite touch. The pots that I respond to all speak of a clear, direct sense of the hand. The hand is celebrated in the work by its maker, whether it is that of a fifteenth century rural potter or a nineteenth century court artisan. And it becomes a necessary tool for the user in understanding the relationship of the object to its function, and subsequently, to how that object informs ones life.
Though most of my work only alludes to function, I use the pot context because of its immense possibilities for abstraction. The skin of the clay holds the invisible interior of the vessel. How I manipulate my forms "around" that air, constraining it, enclosing it, or letting it expand and swell, can allow analogy and metaphor to enter into the work."

Mary Roehm is known for paper-thin wheel-thrown or cast porcelain vessels.
She explores the possibilities for manipulating her vessels, often twisting, tearing the edges, and creating less than round rims. The pieces are usually left unglazed so the effects of wood-firing can be most evident. Although she creates many domestic forms, she is most well known for her bowls, pouring, and conceptual sculptural vessels.

Bertil Vallien is by far the most internationally celebrated glass artist and designer in Sweden. He has received numerous awards and his work is well represented in leading museums around the world. He works in a mythical, dream-like world of symbolic imagery. He undertakes what he himself describes as a never-ending research quest, in close cooperation with his co-workers at Kosta glassworks, several of whom have worked with Vallien for decades. Bertil Vallien is known most of all as the master of sand moulding. His solid, deep-blue, four-meter-long ship has become part of modern glass history. His creations include Château, one of the best-selling ranges of handmade glasses over the years.

Stanley Lechtzin founded Tyler's Jewelry and Metals program in 1962. He is also a founding member of the Society of North American Goldsmiths. In 2009, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of North American Goldsmiths. He was elected to the College of Fellows of the American Crafts Council in 1992 and was the recipient of Temple University's Great Teacher Award in 1989.
His work can be found in numerous permanent collections including the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Design; the Detroit Institute of Arts; Goldsmiths' Hall in London; the Metropolitan Museum of Art's "Donna Schneier Collection"; The National Museum of American Art; and The Philadelphia Museum of Art, among many others.

Morton "Dale" Chase, (1934-2007), grew up in Michigan until his family moved to the San Francisco area at age 11. He graduated from UC Medical School and became a vascular surgeon for 32 years before retiring. After acquiring a Holtzapffel lathe in 1972, he began creating wood bowls and boxes with engraved ornamental designs. As his skills continued to develop, he grew from traditional index ornamenting to the less common (at that time) rose engine work.
His work survives in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Honolulu Museum of Art, Yale University Museum of Art, Museum for Art in Wood, and several others, as well as in personal collections on all continents.

My Cartrageous Sterling silver jewelry and accessories series is an outgrowth of the shopping cart furniture series I began in 2008. I am experimenting with form and playfully with movement. I enjoy taking one shape and considering what else I can do with it. Intended to be playful and fun the jewelry, like the furniture, is developed with a deeper intention. Those who purchase work from the Cartrageous series can find joy of giving twice - 15% of proceeds are donated to a local soup kitchen with each purchase. Because I believe giving doesn't have to be limited to a holiday or special event.
Art swirls through my blood via a long linage of acclaimed and beloved familial painters. Frequently surrounded by artists and their work my childhood was saturated with color and form and conversations about its meaning. So, in a way, art is my first language. While in the magic of the desert earning a Bachelor's of Art and immersed in formal training I dove into the joys and the techniques of printing, ceramics, sculpture and painting, graduating from the University of Arizona in Tucson. Ready for my next chapter I found I longed for my home state the ocean, and it seemed like fate to find the perfect studio on Cape Ann, Massachusetts, and so established "Art by any Means" in 1999.

Corona is part of my first Migration series. I wanted to create something that spoke directly to the heart, so I chose red. The name refers to what I believe is the heart energy responsible for glow of the soul. Ironically, she was created only a few months before the onslaught of the Corona Epidemic // Camp's work has been shown in over 100 exhibitions, including the American Craft Museum, Smithsonian, International Sculpture Center, and University of Michigan. She won a 2020 Award of Excellence at the ACC, and in 2021 the Best of Show from the Peters Valley Craft Fair. Camp had a solo exhibition at Prizm in Miami during 2022 Art Basel. Her workshops include the Baltimore Museum of Art, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Longwood Gardens, and Smithsonian. Her dolls have appeared in Essence, Nouvel Objet, New York Times, FiberArts, National Geographic World, the Village Voice and Smithsonian.

This is a 14 by 19 inch Raku Leaf created by first growing the leaf and then rolling the mature leaf into a large slab of clay..forming the clay then firing it twice, the second firing in a Raku Kiln to bring out the alchemical reactions of copper oxides from blues to greens to reds. After reaching temperature it is pulled hot from the Raku kiln and immersed in sawdust to blacken the clay and further create exciting effects on the piece. // My work in clay has evolved over the years from mostly functional and wheel-thrown forms with the vessel as the predominant form to an increasing involvement with sculptural pieces emphasizing the human form and elements of nature like leaves and shells etc. This evolution has occurred in conjunction with my work as an Art Therapist and Psychotherapist as well as my long love of the natural world.I create my work with a variety of clays and processes. I work with stoneware, porcelain, Raku, and earthenware clays, and fire in many types of kilns. I find that the process of, and reactions of, the fire and chemicals and clay are Alchemical, which offers me infinite possibilities. This is creatively exciting and keeps me fired up!!

From Easter Island- Rapanui: Incised for Chanting OutThe ancient Easter Island glyphs carved on tablets share a mystical language. As rareas the few remaining dozen incised wood planks, Rongorongo is one of a fewindependent languages in human history and is yet to be deciphered.
The unique system of characters are incised in shallow horizontal channels. The text is read from the bottom row, left to right. Each line is reversed so one must turn the tablet 180o to chant to the next line. Although the literal translation is unknown, the spirited nature of the "chants" infuse the sculptures. Inheriting the ancestral Rongorongo mobility, many of the sculptures invertfreely into various poses as they step from 2 to 3 dimension.

Laura Wilensky, an artist who became part of the "Golden Age of New Paltz" is known for her unique art. Cobalt Blue Crackled Porcelain/Fiberglass Platter. As a ceramicist, my goal is to capture the unique fusion of fiber glass textile and porcelain slip. The forms, vessel or flat are remarkable thin, strong and light weight. Each is individually formed and fired. This work explores surface texture by multiple layering of fabric infused with porcelain. The raw edges suggest both fragility and informality.

In the late 90's Dale Chase ventured into using his rose engines to metal guilloche work. They were applied to the lids, sides and occasionally to the bottoms of the boxes. The preferred metals he used were Silver, Gold, and even Gunmetal. In addition to regular round patterns, he incorporated the use of Eccentric, Oval & Rectilinear chucks, and even over lying of various patterns to create further Guilloche art on his boxes. His work survives in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Honolulu Museum of Art, Yale University Museum of Art, Museum for Art in Wood.

Isaiah Zagar is an award-winning mosaic mural artist whose work can be found on more than 200 public walls throughout the city of Philadelphia and around the world. Born in Philadelphia and raised in Brooklyn, Zagar received his B.F.A. in Painting & Graphics at the Pratt Institute of Art in New York City. When he was 19 years old, Zagar discovered the art environment of Clarence Schmidt in Woodstock, New York. This shaped his ideas of what art could be and started a lifelong interest in art environments and their creators.
Isaiah Zagar's artwork is heavily influenced by his travels and the personal connections he has made with international folk and visionary artists. Isaiah and his wife Julia completed three years of Peace Corps service in Peru in the mid-1960s, working with folk artists in the Puno region near Lake Titicaca. Soon after, they settled in Philadelphia and began their life's work of creating public art and fostering creativity in all its varied forms.

John Glick is known for functional, thrown, stoneware vessels with painterly surfaces. His early work reflected his Cranbrook teacher, Maija Grotell, and is characterized by simple, undecorated stoneware dinner services and functional vessels.Glick founded Plum Tree Pottery in 1964. There he produced a range of functional vessels with sophisticated painterly decoration. The surface is drawn on and painted with slips and glazes, frequently with flower and vine motifs, sometimes built up to form relief or textured underglaze surfaces, always creating the illusion of depth.
Glick is considered one of the most important functional potters of his time, not only for his body of work but also as an influential teacher and mentor. Glick introduced, to American studio potters, innovative studio practices that have been widely adopted. He worked with studio assistants, initially having them throw the desired forms or assemble the slabs of hand-built forms to his specifications. Glick concentrated on all aspects of the decoration and finishing.
