Port Ellen Distillery, located on an island (Islay) off the west coast of Scotland and operated from 1825 until 1983. It was an independent distillery, and like many others was facing stiff competition from much larger and multiple location distilleries. The facilities were later purchased by Diageo, owner of dozens of distilleries. The buildings were demolished or repurposed, and the old copper stills were destroyed. In 2020, Diageo began a $30 million rebuilding of the Port Ellen distillery. After undergoing years of aging, the newer version of Port Ellen Single Malt Whisky will once more be available using the newly constructed stills, but the single malt from 1983 and before is rapidly disappearing. A special bottling of the last of the 1983 Port Ellen Single Malt has been donated to the Scotland County Highland Games, and all proceeds of the sale will be retained by the Scotland County Highland Games. This Port Ellen was aged 26 years in a wine treated butt, and bottled at full cask strength in 2009. It will be a perfect toast for any of life's special moments, and it is a collectors item. For that reason there is a reserve on the amount on the bids. Once the reserve amount is crossed; the highest bidder will become the owner of this historic bottle of Port Ellen. Happy bidding!
