An energetic abstract expressionism contemporary painting on paper by Stephen Kaye. Hand signed in pencil on the bottom right. It is annotated as 209/950 of a variable edition. This pre-owned piece comes from a private collection. The piece is 36" x 44" x 1" (framed). In very good vintage condition.
What is variable edition? With a variable edition print, also called a "varied edition", most of the image information is still coming from the plates, but the artist is intentionally manipulating the printing in some way. Variable Editions are also labeled with the print number, then a slash (?) then the number of total prints in the edition.
Visual Artist Stephen Kaye was known for his large-scale abstract oil paintings of landscapes and natural floral scenes. Kaye's abstract paintings were created using a spattle technique, to create various depths of color using a Spatula-like tool. Due to this technique, Kaye's artwork has a rich, textured quality.
