Linguistics #1
Transfer prints are made using toner from a Laser Jet printer. The technique involves applying a solvent to the toner-laden paper, which is then transferred to a secondary surface with applied pressure. Robert Rauschenberg used transfer prints of popular culture images to encourage audiences to understand the work through their own experience. The Linguistics series also uses free association between forms to focus attention on formal elements and imagery projected by the viewer.
The source materials are printed photographs, usually exhibited in groups based on their photograph's location. Emphasizing new expressive lines, the Abstracted images become symbols based on a place's formal elements. The results are fleeting "atoms" of place, compatible as abstracts, letters, and words. The source material for Linguistics #1 are photographs from a Victorian home in Government Hill.

Dicen que AllaThis consists of two 5 x 7" prints, focusing on street photography. The image on the left was taken in Oaxaca, Mexico and used warm tones. The image on the right was taken in San Antonio and includes cool tones. The purpose for juxtaposing these images was made as a commentary on how immigrants, particularly from Mexico, see the other side ("allá") to be better, yet is often false and sometimes evokes misery.

Snow Shadows III
Snow Shadows documents the events of winter storm Uri by replicating shadows from frozen and dying plants. The prints were made using the traditional Japanese moku hanga technique. Based on her downtown San Antonio installation, in the Main Space windows of Art Pace, the prints encourage reflection on both the unexpected beauty and perils prompted by climate change. Note: Can be placed on a wall or in a window for translucent effects.

Suzy Gonzalez creates painted "mestizx media" portraits with natural materials and oil paint on panel. With her collected plant materials, she has also begun creating a series of small plant studies under resin titled "Sacred Symmetry." Blurpleberry
Blurpleberry is an amalgam of various early 2000's media Foerster considers significant to his youth and work, including Barney the Dinosaur, Codename Kids Next Door, and Jimmy Neutron. Through the pit firing process, the work has accumulated ashen markings and cracks that contrast against its pleasant smiles and vibrant colors and reflect concepts central to Foerster's practice. The plants that live within the piece were propagated from a pothos that existed as part of a SAY Si student's work and still lives on Foerster's desk.

Tears in the Sun culminates a feeling of wonderment, as when you are a child full of curiosity, and for the life of you, you want to see what the sun looks like because you've been looking at the moon all night. A sense of longing for knowledge of what is beyond, not just in space, but every aspect of life. The innocence we are born with. Tears in the Sun is that moment when you look at the sun but are forced to close your eyes as it is too bright to see, and you tear up. At the same time, it is the time when your innocence is lost as society becomes a reality with adulthood.

By allowing visions of magic realism to influence his visceral experiences, the Sink series delves into intimate spaces in order to address emotional upheaval and personal loss. Villarreal uses organic subjects that symbolize the death and rebirth that happens throughout our lives revealing the beauty that is lost during the transition, showing you not only colors of life, but just as importantly of death. A sink is a personal place of cleansing, where we perform a routine ritual daily. Villarreal uses this sacred place as an altar to show guilt, regret, and sorrow washed away. The tension between the cultures of rationalism and magic realism collide in his work. Not only questioning the physical walls that divide specific boundaries, but the societal expressions of emotions and beliefs.

Guy Faux License
Guy Fawkes is a historical personage who has been a popular bogeyman in the Anglo consciousness for hundreds of years. Masks of his face have been used in celebrations of the Guy Fawkes Night for about as long. The Guy Fawkes mask has more recently become a common brand and a convenient placard to use in protest against tyranny, but the design widely used today has been co-opted by right wing trolls and is owned by Time Warner. Paying Time Warner an intellectual property tax for the privilege of revolution is an affront to the spirit of revolution itself. To that end, the Seditious Industrial Complex Guy Faux mask design is released into the Public Domain under the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) license.

This print started as a photograph taken with my phone through the window of an airplane. From 35,000 feet, you can see the curvature of the Earth, the tops of clouds, brilliant sunrises and sunsets, and intensely deep blues as the air thins toward outer space. I'm compelled to take these snapshots despite window scratches and the occasional reflection. But there is something valuable in the color data - millions of pixels, a record of light like any other photograph. The data speaks to the color and complexity of sunlight as it works its way though our atmosphere. I then applied an algorithm to break down the photograph into a grid of small dots, similar to a halftone pattern, but different because the original color values are retained. In doing so, the image is abstracted, albeit less so from a distance than up close. It is a record of light, specifically the color of atmospheric light. The title references the airline flight number.
Woven in Transit: 51
Bus stops serve as grounding points where countless lives converge and unfold. When I see this stop, I feel enveloped in a collage of moments I lived around it. I see the school I went to about a block away, where I found my passion for photography. I see the house a few streets down, which was the first set I ever filmed on. I see the icehouse a few blocks away, where I celebrated with my colleagues and felt like an adult for the first time. I see the cafe a few steps away, where I had my first drink with friends. Despite its intended transitory nature, there's a sense of grounding that emerges from this place, as if it's woven itself into my being.

3 Private Flamenco Classes
My work is grounded in the Jewish philosophy of "Tikkun Olam," which means "Heal the World." Through my work, I focus on the restoration of the individual and the defense of human peace and dignity. My music, dance, and art is my way to provide healing and restoration. I start by healing myself, in my studio practicing or trying to move my body in different ways, or thinking through a storyline of a project I'm creating. When I work with collaborating artists, the circle of healing widens as each of us brings our healing gifts to bear. As the project matures, and we come to understand our project as a group, the body of the work takes a life of its own. The work expands and resonates, thus engaging the process of healing from us to our audiences. In my work I start with flamenco, my primary form of expression. I explore the realm of the fine and theatrical arts, using multimedia, performance art and spoken word to engage specific subject matter and augment the message. "

I know, you want to meet the Donkey Lady; although this rarely happens, you will probably hear her. She's a cabrona and rarely makes appearances.
Details such as date and time will be arranged after confirmation. You can decide to meet me (Marisela) at the rendezvous address or be picked up. If you are opting for transportation, the tour is limited to 3-4 people.
You'll hear about the Donkey Lady onsite and receive an ARTifact to take home. If y'all are up for it, we can also visit a southside place for refreshments. Tour must take place before dusk. It's much too dangerous to go after dark.

The Glorious Way She Moves: Gracie Poe-Etched V.E. 2/25
The Glorious Way She Moves explores the fullness and depth of the female form from youthful innocence to glorious maturity. As a woman of color, I strive to address the malapropos labels placed upon my culture, race and the feminine gender, while bringing women into a magnified view that recognizes our magnificence as multi-faceted human beings. These interpretive portraits illustrate the exuberance and individuality of each muse I celebrate, capturing the poise and spirit by which they pay homage to the legacy of generations of women who came before them. These portraits symbolically exemplify the self-esteem that women of color exude as they move through their lives and the world.
In my process, I video record each woman dancing, then jump to the film's individual frames, using them to help me expose and capture my subjects' unique character and individuality. During their dance, I specifically look for physical and expressive nuances my subjects demonstrate, then use these individual signature movements to reveal each subjects' aesthetic. By doing this I experience a connection to their beauty without stereotyping. It is that connection I share in my work.
Gracie Poe is a dynamic African American senior citizen. Poe is a retired retail fashion merchandise manager, was one of the founders of San Antonio Queen of Soul, and served 3 times as San Antonio Ethnic Art Society President. She currently works a sculptor whose work is inspired by her African heritage. When it comes to dancing she says: "I can't be contained."
