Bio
Jim Makins is known for his gestural and expressive approach to clay. Makins received his B.F.A. at the Philadelphia College of Art (now The University of Arts) in 1964 and his MFA at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1973. As an apprentice to the ceramicist Byron Temple, Makins learned to merge Eastern and Western pottery styles¦. Finger ridges, dimpling, and additional throwing rings are unique characteristics of his work. You can find Makin's work in various collections, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Rhode Island School of Design Museum, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
