ANA BALCAZAR BARTRA is a Peruvian artist that works in Lima (Peru), Erie, (PA), and Tallinn (Estonia). COREY BROMAN was born in Lincoln, NE in 1979. He started working with glass shortly after high school in 1998. After initially working with Ed Fennel and several of his students at Crystal Forge in Omaha, NE, Corey joined the studio glass program at Hastings College to further his glassmaking education. There he became an apprentice and assistant to the professor of glass, Tom Kreager. Corey became involved in intensive Venetian-style glass making techniques, while collaborating with other glass artists at the college. In addition to Corey's time at Hastings, he has taken several workshops at the Corning Museum of Glass and other colleges and universities with glass programs. Each workshop focused on different techniques and skills that apply to glassblowing, glass sculpting, glass casting, and kiln forming. In 2003, Corey built his own glass studio in Omaha. He has shown his work privately and in gallery and museum exhibits primarily in the Midwest and on the west coast.

ANN BRUGENHEMKE of Council Bluffs specializes in painting, drawing, and ceramics. Her recent ceramic work is sourced from childhood memories of storm watching, the need to move physically, and concepts of support and attachment. Brugenhemke earned a BFA from UNO in 1992 and is currently a guest teaching artist at Montclair Elementary School in the Millard school district. Brugenhemke received a Relief Grant from Iowa Arts Council in 2020 and a Project Grant from American Red Cross Rescue Plan through the Iowa Arts Council in 2021.

ANN BRUGENHEMKE of Council Bluffs specializes in painting, drawing, and ceramics. Her recent ceramic work is sourced from childhood memories of storm watching, the need to move physically, and concepts of support and attachment. Brugenhemke earned a BFA from UNO in 1992 and is currently a guest teaching artist at Montclair Elementary School in the Millard school district. She had two solo shows in 2019 at Lauritzen Gardens and Hillmer Art Gallery; two additional group shows in Omaha at Split; two juried shows "New Masters" at Hoff Family Arts and Culture Center; and three group shows with five resident artists at Hoff since 2020. DILLON BRYANT (b. JAMIE BURMEISTER is an artist and musician based in Omaha, Nebraska. Jamie received an M.F.A. in Sculpture from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 2005. His 20 year art career has found him working with many diverse approaches to art making. JORDAN BUSCHUR is an artist, educator, and curator based in Toledo, Ohio. JOSEPH CARTER is a self-taught artist based in Omaha, NE. His body of work pays homage to the development of technology and the advancement of printmaking and photography processes. JOHN COHORST is a Midwest-based artist, creating both functional and sculptural art objects. BOB CULVER is a painter from Omaha, NE who served on the Bemis Board for many years and currently serves on the board of Nebraska Cultural Endowment, and is Past-president of the Museum of Nebraska Art Board. His body of work is distinctive for its seamless weaving of close-to-home influences and worldwide events, inspired primarily by pop artists of the '60s and '70s with a dash of great portrait painters such as John Singer Sargent. He creates richly detailed paintings, 3-D cutouts, and automata that all work on multiple levels. Simultaneously culturally idealistic and socially critical, they provide insight into the artist and the subjects that have informed his creative practice over the past five decades. "My body of work is distinctive for its weaving together of close-to-home influences and worldwide events. I create detailed paintings, 3-D cutouts and automata that all work on multiple levels. Simultaneously culturally idealistic and socially critical, they provide insight into the subjects that have informed my creative practice over the past five decades, especially the Pop Art movement. In New York during the late 60's into 70's I was a studio assistant to the pop artist, Red Grooms, who gave me the nickname "The Nebraska Kid." The sobriquet implied Midwestern innocence, idealism, and values as well as an earnest, enduring desire to fight the good fight. My alias, the Nebraska Kid, has stayed with me and the character appears in some of the my most tongue-in-cheek work, usually accompanied by the cartoon characters and heroes of my youth with whom the Kid joins to save the day."

SHANE DARWENT is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice mines the commercial vernacular that lines American roadways to inform experimental photographic works, large-scale sculpture, and site-responsive installations. JENNIFER LING DATCHUK is an artist born in Warren, Ohio and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Her work is an exploration of her layered identity - as a woman, a Chinese woman, as an "American," as a third culture kid. Trained in ceramics, Datchuk works with porcelain and other materials often associated with traditional women's work, such as textiles and hair, to discuss fragility, beauty, femininity, intersectionality, identity, and personal history. Her practice evolved from sculpture to mixed media as she began to focus on domestic objects and the feminine sphere. Handwork and hair both became totems of the small rituals that fix, smooth over, and ground women's lives. Through these materials, she explores how Western beauty standards influenced the East, how the non-white body is commodified and sold, and how women's - globally, girls' - work is still a major economic driver whose workers still struggle for equality.

Datchuk holds an MFA in Artisanry from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and a BFA in Crafts from Kent State University. She has received grants from the Artist Foundation of San Antonio, travel grant from Artpace, and the Linda Lighton International Artist Exchange Program to research the global migrations of porcelain and blue and white pattern decoration. She was awarded a residency through the Blue Star Contemporary Art Museum to conduct her studio practice at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin, Germany and has participated in residencies at the Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen, China, Vermont Studio Center, European Ceramic Work Center in the Netherlands, Artpace in San Antonio, Texas and the John Michael Kohler Arts/Industry Residency in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

In 2017, she received the Emerging Voices award from the American Craft Council and in 2020 was named a United States Artist Fellow in Craft. Her work has been featured in a solo publication "Jennifer Ling Datchuk: Half" through French and Michigan in San Antonio, TX, and included in "Artpace at 25", "Black Cube: A Nomadic Museum", the Guardian, Vogue, and American Craft Magazine. EVA DAVIDOVA is a Spanish/ Bulgarian artist based in New York City. She explores behavior, ecological disaster, and the political implications of technology through performative works rooted in the absurd. CATHERINE FERGUSON's work is featured in public and private collections across the region, including major Nebraska museums such as the Sheldon Museum of Art in Lincoln, the Museum of Nebraska Art, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, the Landmarks building, and the Omaha Public Library Main Branch. Ferguson is particularly well known for installations that are transcendent and transformative, and critics have noted the idealistic and often mythical quality intrinsic to her work. In the 2005 January/February issue of NY Arts Magazine, Kim Carpenter praised Ferguson's ability for "deftly weaving symbols universally inherent in myth, memory, mysticism and metaphysics." Catherine has also worked within the community to benefit the visual arts. MARCUS FISCHER is a first-generation American sound and visual artist who creates, collects, and transforms audio into immersive, layered soundscapes that accompany performances/installations. Site-specific assemblages of exposed speakers, tape loops, and found objects are characteristic of his installations, paired with melodies of restraint and tension. He has released numerous recordings-both solo and collaborative -on 12k, a label that has decisively defined and developed its own concept of minimalism in the realms of experimental and ambient music. In 2017, he was an artist-in-residence at the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation / Rauschenberg Residency where he completed "Loss," his most recent solo album. LAURA FITZGERALD works in drawing, painting, installation, video, and text. She is a graduate of the National College of Art & Design, Dublin, Ireland and Royal College of Art, London, UK. She is a recipient of the Visual Arts Bursary Award (Arts Council of Ireland) for 2022-23. She previously attended the International Studio and Curatorial Program in New York, USA, and has recently completed on a three- month residency (AIR Spring 2023) at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, in Omaha, Nebraska, USA. Her work looks at aspects of uncertainty, through exploring narratives within the contemporary art world, rurality and land use. The work itself is a bit of a contradiction either taking a stand or making a good run for it. Her practice is under pinned via drawing and looks at spaces between hard and soft boundaries, checking inside to see what's going on and what it all might mean. Of course, this is an absurdist approach, but it is also (hopefully), an optimistic one. Her work has formed in galleries and on mountains and uses storytelling as a device for remembering and releasing. Her work involves planning and looking, (both left and right over her shoulder and back the road). The sometimes involves digging, throwing things up into the light again. Laura's next artwork is a walking path, the walk itself is the piece of art.

TIM GUTHRIE is an Omaha-based multimedia visual artist and experimental filmmaker. RAMON M GUZMAN is a local Nebraska-based artist, art is his passion and he has been creating for over 15 years. P. HANSON currently resides in Portland, Oregon, and has lived and traveled extensively throughout the western states. Local geography, culture, and history inform her work. Andrea Joyce Heimer's paintings evoke narrative friezes and tapestries where landscapes and interiors are organized into distinct rows, each portraying a different stage in the lives of her characters. Throughout her work, Heimer demonstrates an interest in origins-of the universe, of narrative art-that seems to be a response to the obscurity surrounding her own inception. Her work contains complex, imaginative and original use of symbolic figures and iconography. SALVADOR JIMENEZ-FLORES is an interdisciplinary artist born and raised in Jalisco, Mexico. He explores the politics of identity and the state of double consciousness. KLAIRE A LOCKHEART is a feisty artist who uses traditional oil painting techniques to critique historical injustices in the traditional Western art world. JUDE MARTINDALE grew up in rural Nebraska and currently lives and paints in Lincoln. Martindale studied biology and art for a BS from UNL before studying portraiture at the Art Students League of New York. She then earned a Masters in Scientific Illustration from the University of Arizona. After moving back to Lincoln, Martindale freelanced as an illustrator and developed her skills with watercolor and abstraction. Her recent book, Flying Free, 2020, showcases her illustrations of sandhill cranes in several different mediums. JOHN C MILLER uses oil-paint on canvas or wood, and watercolor. He is from Omaha, NE. Miller earned his BFA from UNO after studying oil painting with Augustus Dunbier and Iowa-based artist Dimiter Kustev during his high-school years. Both mentors had a huge influence on him. He taught adult watercolor classes for 20 years at Joslyn Art Museum as well as 10 years prior at Omaha Metro. He also taught oil painting, watercolor and drawing classes out of his studios for 5 years at Jackson Art Works in the Old Market and then 20 Years at Hot Shops. Currently, he works in his home studio. He has had many shows over the past 45 years and has many paintings in mostly private collections. He has also produced and curated many shows over the years including the Free Male Show and the Erotic Show that alternated every other year at the Antiquarium during the 1990's. He won a Nebraska Fellowship in 1992 and an OEA Award in 2006, the inaugural year. Miller describes his work as "old school figurative expressionistic oil painting using a layered scumbling technique, colorful with high contrast. The watercolor paintings are transparent layers of paint which mimic the look of the oil paintings. Content is important to me and runs the gamete between personal to political with a bit of humor."

JENENE NAGY is a visual artist living and working in the Inland Empire region of Southern California. She has exhibited nationally and internationally at venues in Los Angeles, Portland, New York, and Berlin. DONNY NIE is a Chinese-Canadian interdisciplinary artist living in Denton, TX. LIBBI PONCE (they/them, she/her) is an Ecuadorian artist, born in 1997 to a family of musicians, making sculptures, 360-degree videos, installations, and performances. Ponce explores themes of Latinx-Futurism through a sculptural practice of world-building incorporating an ambitious range of materials including steel, bronze, resin, polyurethane, mortar, grout, terracotta, and glass. Inspired by the erotic and anthropomorphic motifs from ancient Andean ceramics, Ponce constructs tactile sculptural objects which probe discourse on grief, intimacy, and historic folklore.

They have attended the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, Oxbow Artists' Residency, Yale Norfolk Undergraduate Residency, and ACRE. Exhibitions include terciopelo at Selenas Mountain, BASE REMOVED at the Museo Antropologico y de Arte Contemporaneo, and Skyway 20/21 at the Tampa Museum of Art. They hold a BFA in Studio Art and BA in Philosophy from the University of South Florida. In 2021, Ponce completed a Fulbright Creative Research Fellowship in Ecuador. In 2023, they completed an ArtTable research fellowship at the Chrysler Museum Of Art. Libbi is the founder/director of galeria juniin in Guayaquil, Ecuador and Co-Director of Coco Hunday Gallery in Tampa, FL. Libbi is currently based between Ecuador and the states.

JOSH POWELL is a painter, sculptor, and drawer. He prefers to mix the three and work mostly as a mixed media artist. THOMAS PRINZ is the principal of Arc-Studio, which is located in Omaha and was established in 1990 to explore the disciplines of Art and Architecture. He received his undergraduate degree in Architecture from the University of Nebraska and a master's degree from Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCOI-ARC) in 1988. He has been an adjunct professor and visiting critic at UNL School of Architecture. MELODIE PROVENZANO lived and worked in New York City until 2020. ALICIA REYES MCNAMARA completed her MFA at University of Oxford Ruskin School of Art in 2016. Their work has been included in Bloomberg New Contemporaries (2016). GAMALIEL RODRIGUEZ (b. 1977, Bayamon, Puerto Rico) is a visual artist based in Puerto Rico. His large-scale works on paper imagine landscapes inspired by the two-fold character of Puerto Rico, which the artist recently described as a mix of "beauty and chaos." Merging industrial and natural environments, Rodriguez depicts abandoned structures surrounded by verdant greenery-which he often renders as an aerial view. Devoid of a human presence, the overgrown buildings have a dystopic yet familiar feel, prompting mis-recognitions by viewers reminded of locations in their own hometowns. Though the artist's subjects are fictitious, they are inspired by the accumulation of manufacturing projects in Puerto Rico established and ultimately abandoned by US companies lured by tax breaks and cheap labor in the mid-20th century. Rodriguez received his BA from the University of Sacred Heart in San Juan PR in 2004, his MFA from the Kent Institute of Art and Design in 2005, and attended the prestigious Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine in 2011. He has participated in numerous residencies and fellowships such as The MacDowell Fellowship in 2012 and The International Studio & Curatorial Program Residency in 2013. In 2016, Rodríguez had a solo exhibition at SCAD Museum in Savannah, Georgia which featured Figure 1737, a 45-foot long ballpoint pen drawing. LEE EMMA RUNNING is an artist based in Omaha Nebraska who creates sweeping public installations on glass, as well as arresting objects using cast iron, enamel, glass, bone, and handmade paper. For the last 15 years, she has been using this work to engage audiences in conversations about the impact of human-built systems on the natural world.

She was a 2023 Foundry Resident in the Arts/Industry program at Kohler and a 2022/23 Artist in Residence with Opera Omaha. A permanent installation of her work will be built into Roskens Hall at the University of Nebraska Omaha in 2024. Her work has been featured in exhibitions at the Des Moines Art Center, National Taiwan University of the Arts, Form and Concept Gallery in Santa Fe, and PACE Gallery in Council Bluffs. She has been awarded residencies at Ucross, Jentel, Santa Fe Art Institute, and Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts and Agriculture.

Running is the recipient of a 2023 Populus fund grant from the Union for Contemporary Art in Omaha and was a 2017 Iowa Arts Council Fellow. Her work is represented by Olsen Larson Galleries.

These plates are cast directly from fabric and hand-carved wax. The enameled surface has been sanded back to the botanical reliefs and leafed with a thin layer of copper. These objects allude to scientific sample plates holding images of wild roses and deadly nightshade from the Nebraska State Herbarium.

Lee works with cast iron because of the connections of an element found in the body, industry, and land. Her work has historically combined unlikely metaphorical materials: Bone and gold, handmade paper and animal fur, bone and glass.

The materials of iron and powdered glass join each other seamlessly through heat. The enamel protects the iron, which is otherwise vulnerable to rust and decay. A fragile glass shell protecting a heavy, strong metal reminds us how different materials are fragile alone, but combine into strong structures. Much of the natural world follows a similar structural model of protection.

JOAQUIN SEGURA is a visual artist who lives and works in Mexico City. COLIN C. SMITH's paintings and sculpture expand the conventions of painting. Beginning with the joys of material, color and the graphic image, Smith's newest works are aggressive, buoyant and difficult to classify. THERMAN STATOM is a sculptor/painter most notably known as a pioneer of the contemporary glass movement for his life-size glass ladders, chairs, tables, constructed box-like paintings, and small scale houses; all created through the technique of gluing glass plates together. Sandblasted surfaces become a canvas for spontaneous vibrant colors and line work, which take nuances from Abstract Expressionism and concepts of Minimalism, while simultaneously incorporating a twist by using blown-glass elements and found objects. Throughout his career, public artworks have been permanently installed at prominent locations including the Los Angeles Public Library, Corning, Inc. Headquarters, the Mayo Clinic, San Jose Ice Center, the Toledo Museum of Art, and the Jepson Center for the Arts in the Telfair Museum, Savannah as well as several hospitals across the country. His artwork appears in numerous exhibitions annually, including solo and group shows around the nation and internationally. Statom has completed over thirty large, site-specific installations. Much of the latter half of Statom's career has been focused on the importance of educational programming within the arts. He has taken a deep interest in employing workshops as a catalyst for social change and in effect, positively impacting a community. BARBARA TAKENAGA is an abstract painter who makes images that are abstract and representational, microscopic and cosmic. CRISTINA VICTOR is a Cuban-American artist whose making always stems from the hyphen. Raised in a military family, ROB WALTERS grew up in all corners of the United States. A former artist-in-residence at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts and Vermont Studio Center, 2013, and at Headland Center for the Arts, 2014, Zhu regularly collaborates with established organizations. Her recent work includes a mural crafted solely out of Lego bricks for Project Harmony, a non-profit dedicated to preventing child abuse. The University of Nebraska also invited Zhu to create a piece for their Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center, resulting in an immersive installation constructed of tinted mirror shards. She participated in the Klein Sun Residency at Millers Falls Art Bridge in 2015. Her work has been exhibited in solo exhibitions including Live Like An Astronaut, Klein Sun Gallery, New York, NY (2015); Crumbs of Tenderness, Lied Gallery, Creighton University, Omaha, NE (2014); Return As Departure, Lux Center for the Arts, Lincoln, NE (2014); Every Cloud Has A Silver Lining, Union for Contemporary Art, Omaha, NE (2014); and Please Watch Your Step, Museum of Nebraska Art, Omaha, NE (2013). MARY ZICAFOOSE is a tapestry weaver who works from her rural Pahuk studio in Cedar Bluffs, NE. The template of her work in cloth and paper is drawn primarily from two sources, the landscape of the Great Plains and a fascination with archetypal symbols, deeply color saturated and technically layered using the complex resist-dye process known as ikat. Her work is exhibited and collected internationally, including the International Triennial of Tapestry, Lodz, Poland; Museo de Textil, Oaxaca, Mexico; China National Silk Museum, Hangzhou, and the collections of eighteen United States Embassy's on four continents. Extensive exhibition, teaching, and lecture venues include the de Young Museum, San Francisco, Penland School of Craft, Penland, NC, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, Gatlinburg, TN and universities, conferences, and textile programs worldwide. She is the author of Ikat: The Essential Handbook to Weaving Resist-Dyed Cloth, with a companion book to be released in 2024.

This year, Bemis Center and 2022 Artist-in-Residence Ron Norsworthy present a special limited-edition collaboration: CE NE SONT PAS DES CHAUSSETTES (These are not socks), 2023. This functional art object is inspired by Norsworthy's bedroom installation created during his residency at Bemis Center in the Fall of 2022. The installation will also be included in Bemis Center's upcoming exhibition, Neo-Custodians: Woven Narratives of Heritage, Cultural Memory, and Belonging, curated by Nneoma Ilogu, 2022-2023 Curator-in-Residence. CE NE SONT PAS DES CHAUSSETTES is part of Norsworthy's ongoing investigation into how art can be integrated into our everyday lives and dialogue. The design fuses Norsworthy's "Blackity" textile pattern with the Bemis "X" on a flower motif found on an ottoman in Norsworthy's studio at Bemis.

Elisabeth Kley: Minutes of Sand features an entirely new body of work, sitting at the distinctive confluence of pattern, decoration, and contemporary art. Known for her black-and-white patterns featured in ceramics, drawings, paintings, and site-specific installations, the artist draws inspiration from motifs featured in ornamentation, architecture, interior decoration, and a myriad of global art traditions. Merging the ancient and modern, Kley translates these fragments into an interdisciplinary practice conveying ideas of opulence and mystery.

This is the artist's first solo museum show organized by the Fabric Workshop and Museum (FWM) and traveling to Bemis Center. Invited to print yardage utilizing FWM's world-renowned screen printing facilities, Kley interweaved her ceramic and painting practices with three new yardage designs and a new suite of ceramic sculptures for the exhibition.

Maya Dunietz: Root of Two is a 144-page catalogue accompanying the exhibition of the same title at the Bemis Center in 2022. Co-published by the Bemis Center and X Artists' Books and designed by Omnivore, this catalogue traverses the career of experimental musician and composer Maya Dunietz, unveiling her multidisciplinary practice that has spanned performance, composition, sculpture and installation, avant-garde theatrical performance, and choir work. Edited by Rachel Adams, Chief Curator and Director of Programs at the Bemis Center, other contributors include Chris Cook, Maya Dunietz, Michael Pisaro, Galit Eilat, Ariel Ashbel, Chen Tamir, Sergio Edelsztein, Ran Kasmy Ilan, and Keren Rosenbaum.

The solo exhibition, Maya Dunietz: Root of Two engages the physicality of sound through a series of installations encompassing the entirety of Bemis Center's 13,000 square foot gallery space. The works become an ensemble, connecting with each other through the viewer's experience. As sound materializes, the works unfold and intertwine, enabling a transformative experience. In the traditional sense, they are singular works, yet they resonate with each other, rely on one another, and as a visitor walks through the galleries, the previous works sonically and physically influence what comes afterward as well as what came beforehand.

This exhibition catalogue accompanies Bemis Center's 2020 exhibition Claudia Wieser: Generations. Referencing the history of space and form through architecture, design, and imagery, Claudia Wieser considers the coexistence of abstraction and the physiological experience through her spatial installations. With a nod to Modernist geometric constructions inspired by the Bauhaus and influenced by spirituality within an artistic practice like artists Hilma af Klint, Wassily Kandinsky, and Paul Klee before her, Generations encompasses Wieser's distinctive, multi-faceted practice.

Alongside images of her artworks and installations, this publication features essays by curators Rachel Adams and Jennifer Carty that examine Wieser's practice in relation to its historical foundations and influences. This volume also contains three interviews conducted by art historians and scholars Maggie Taft, Igor Siddiqui, and Angelik Vizcarrondo-Laboy, offering a range of perspectives on Wieser's multidisciplinary practice.

In TIMESHARE, Mayer explores how art can function and/or aid during times of disaster or even when the planet becomes uninhabitable. Her work uses the formula of part solutionism part subtle denial mixed with an "everything will be fine" attitude. While the problem might actually be too large to be addressed in any actual sense, the works in this show attempt, with humor and insight. For example, A Sculpture Can Be Used As A Flotation Device In Times Of Emergency is a text work that greets the viewers, and sets the stage for the exhibition. Upon entering further, the viewer will be transported into a contemporary conservatory, an indoor/outdoor sculpture park of sorts, complete with fountains, architectural resting zones, and greenery. Through a variety of mediums that include video, painting, and sculptural objects, Mayer's environment can act as a place that offers refuge and solace while also serving as a blueprint for garden designers of the future. TIMESHARE investigates and comments on both art's objective and the artist's responsibility.

Jillian Mayer: TIMESHARE was first presented at the University at Buffalo Art Galleries February 5-May 11, 2019. This exhibition was on view at Bemis Center in 2020.
