Chakravarty & Caldwell
Live ItemDippin' Out by Jason Chakravarty and Jennifer Caldwell
This helmet was created during a residency at Barrio Glassworks. The goal that day was to simultaneously catch up with a couple old friends and make glass with a couple new friends. A flameworking station was set up in the hot shop which enabled us to merge our process' in real time. A group of five artists spent the morning choosing color, pulling cane and creating parts. The afternoon was spent assembling all the parts. The day reflects the most rewarding and strongest form of art, the "experience of making".

Ron Desmett
Live ItemLidded Trunk Vessel #3 by Ron Desmett
Desmett used hollowed-out fallen tree trunks as his molds for creating these eerie, organic, and unsettling forms in black glass. Acid etching and applied finishes give his work an almost fabric-like finish. Using a composite of smaller trunks to create the "lid" of the vessel, Desmett creates an entirely aesthetic object assembled by the space created by natural decay. The results are highly personal, abstract forms that have sinews and gnarled shapes that are layered with meaning and possible association.

Mauro Vianello
Live ItemUnderwater Scene by Mauro Vianello
For those who don't know me yet, let me introduce myself: I am Mauro, a glass artisan, specialised in the creation of sea creatures with flameworked glass. I am often asked why I made this choice, and the most frequent answer is that living in Venice has made it really easy for me to fall in love with the marine world. I was born in Murano, a small island in the Venice lagoon famous for its long tradition of glassmaking, and I grew up spending most of my time sailing around the lagoon on my boat. All this time spent in close contact with water and the nature of this particular ecosystem led me to become fascinated by marine life and its creatures.

Raven Skyriver
Live ItemGiant Pacific Octopus by Raven Skyriver
Working with teams of anywhere from 3 to 10 people, Skyriver is able to realize sculptures of a size and weight that would daunt many glassblowers. He sculpts all of his creatures while the glass is molten hot, which takes precision, focus, and perfect timing. If the sculptures make it through the blowing, sculpting, and cooling process-and many do not-they can be sandblasted, engraved or ground to add detail. Skyriver's inspiration is drawn from nature. The challenge of realism is what makes working sculpturally alluring to him.

Preston Singletary
Live ItemRaven Steals the Stars, 2009 by Preston Singletary
"When I began working with glass in 1982, I had no idea that I'd be so connected to the material in the way that I am. It was only when I began to experiment with using designs from my Tlingit cultural heritage that my work began to take on a new purpose and direction. Over time, my skill with the material of glass and traditional form line design has strengthened and evolved, allowing me to explore more fully my own relationship to both my culture and chosen medium. My work with glass transforms the notion that Native artists are only best when traditional materials are used. It has helped advocate on the behalf of all Indigenous people-affirming that we are still here-that that we are declaring who we are through our art in connection to our culture.", Preston Singletary Sand Carved blown glass

Masahiro Sasaki
Live ItemDeep Forest #2014 by Masahiro Sasaki
I extract forms from discoveries made in the process of learning about the materials and improving my skills, taking as themes the primitive forms that emerge when I bear witness to the series of changes that occur due to heat, gravity, centrifugal force and so on. Molten glass moves seductively in the flames with a life of its own, appearing organic in form despite its inorganic nature. I participate in the cycle of transformation caused by fire. Initially the final shape is undecided. I could say that I collaborate with glass to make my work. The pieces reveal their shape as a result of my knowledge of the material along with discoveries and intuition learned in the process of mastering my skills.

John Kiley
Live ItemOverlap by John Kiley
Artist John Kiley uses primary geometric forms as the architecture for his glass sculptures. In his spherical forms, juxtaposed colors and carved optic passageways create a separation of space, allowing the viewer to peer into and through the form. Often his sculptures are balanced on edge seeming to defy gravity. Blown and Wheelcut Glass

Mel Douglas, Honorary Artist
Live ItemInterstices II by Mel Douglas, 2023 Honorary Artist
This series explores the idea of a third space (the moment of transition between a first activity and the second). By stacking and overlaying set of two objects, I am building a transition space, a space where the two intersect and create an addition spatial system. The engraved lines on these objects explore the mass (convex) and space (concave) volume of objects through drawing. By using continuous reductive lines, on the interior, exterior and the space in between (substrate), I am mapping and defining space. By using the transparency, translucency and opacity of glass, I am exploring the boundaries between the outside and inside, suspending lines in space. Blown & coldworked glass.
