Two spots at The New Jersey School of Conservation's Rustic bread-baking class

Date and Time: Saturday, October 7 from 11am-3pm

Explore a hands-on experience in bread baking in an outdoor, wood fired oven! Warm homemade bread, fresh out of the oven, is a sumptuous culinary repast! Try this hands-on experience in rustic bread baking and you can learn how an outdoor wood fired oven works, and bring home your own loaf to share (or not!).

This workshop begins by following a Rustic Yeasted Bread recipe that will be kneaded and coaxed into a loving loaf of bread that will be baked in an outdoor, wood fired oven. During the rising time, participants will collectively make a bakers' snack. Every baking experience in the outdoor oven is unique! Feeding the fire, heating the interior of the oven high enough for quick bakers' snack and stepping the temperature down for the bread baking has its challenges. We will share with you how it all works and keep our fingers crossed for a great bake day!

This workshop is open to individual adults, couples, and to children (ages 11 and up) with an adult partner. Each participant/pair will prepare and bake one loaf of bread to take home at the end of the session. Please note: We will ask registered participants to bring an apron, large mixing bowl, 1-2 oven mitts, a large, clean dish towel, zip lock bag, and a large paper bag (to carry bread home). This is one of the School of Conservation's most popular events and fills up quickly, so we ask the winner to please confirm their attendance with the school no later than Sept. 30

About the New Jersey School of Conservation
Located on a 240-acre tract of land in Stokes State Forest in Sussex County, New Jersey, the School of Conservation is our nation's oldest and largest environmental education center. NJSOC has a long and celebrated history, beginning in 1949 when officials from the Department of Higher Education, college presidents, the Department of Conservation and Economic Development, politicians, and conservationists worked together to realize the promise of a world-class outdoor education center in an abandoned CCC camp. It played a key role in the development of the environmental education movement, and has served as a model for environmental centers throughout the world. Breslin Park Walking History Tour with special visit to historic Miss Lotta Crabtree home, in Mount Arlington

Beautifully restored, the cottage Lotta's mother had designed for her by the famous American architect Frank Furness and presented as a gift in 1885, is a must see. This is a rare opportunity to see one of the lake's most beautiful homes and learn its history.

About Breslin Park in Mount Arlington:

The single most important factor in Lake Hopatcong's rise as a great resort was the construction of the Hotel Breslin in 1887. The hotel was encircled by elegant cottages, many of which still stand today in Mount Arlington. The development, known as Breslin Park, hosted leaders of industry, and most famous actress of her generation, and even the Vice-President of the United States. Easy-paced, 90 minute narrated walk on mostly flat terrain will be led by the President of the Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum, Marty Kane.

About the artist
Greg Hildebrandt has been illustrating professionally for more than 65 years. Along with his late twin brother Tim, he created works of art that have redefined popular culture. Greg and Tim Hildebrandt first garnered international fame with their best-selling calendars of J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved classic "Lord of the Rings" published in 1976, 1977 and 1978 by Ballantine Books. However, their most well-known work of art, is the original poster for the first Star Wars film. That work alone has been reproduced on hundreds of thousands of products world-wide and remains in global circulation as a logo on Star Wars related merchandise. At 84 years old, Greg continues to work professionally and has no plans to stop anytime soon. He is currently in the concept design stages for the 2023 Trans-Siberian Orchestra winter Tour Concert Program. Along with his wife and business partner Jean Scrocco, Greg founded The Spiderwebart Gallery in 1995.

We have been lucky to call Greg and Jean our neighbors and friends at the lake, going back 33 years.

LIVE AUCTION: Foursome of golf at Due Process!

Listed by Golf Pass as one of "the 10 most insanely private golf courses you will never get to play" and one of a dozen of the most private courses in the word, Due Process is the most private of private clubs.

It was built in 1992 for $40M by disgraced stock trader Robert Brennan as his own private course. Former US Open Champions Johnny Miller and Gene Bates were brought in to design the layout. It's known for its massive horse sculptures, a nod to the fact that it is a working equestrian center. It was sold to Goldman Sachs executive Peter C. Gerhard and John Ferolito, co-founderof Arizona Iced Tea, who owned it for 16 years. Membership was limited to 100 people and initiation fees were reportedly $350,000. In recent years, it has gone through beautiful renovations.

Despite being one of the nation's more expensive private clubs to join, those lucky enough to receive an invite will be treated like royalty for the duration of their stay. The course has 18 signature holes, each having a distinctive characteristic presenting challenges and opportunities for all.
