A varietal of mystery in terms of its origin is believed to date back to 500 B.C and was introduced to Catalonia by the Phoenicians. It is most famously used as a blending grape in the southern Rhone Valley in Chateauneuf du Pape but it now has a following in California.

Tasting Notes: Inviting nose of ripe plum and blackberry with notes of espresso bean upon initial tasting with a bold mid-palate blossoming into dark chocolate and cassis nuances cascading into silky tannins with hints of dark berry lingering on the closing. Will pair brilliantly with seared Ahi, game, grilled eggplant and Portobello mushrooms and Truffle risotto as well as young cheddar or smoked Gouda cheeses.

The 2017 vintage is a dark violet, full body wine with aromatic and exquisite notes of berries, espresso, dark chocolate and oak that boasts depth, richness and elegance. Delicate hints of licorice and sweetness lend an opulent character to this vintage. Hand harvested grapes and barrel fermented in new French oak. A longer growing season with milder summer months contributed to this gorgeous wine. From start to finish, a terrific example of the vintage and truly a wine to be savored. The 2018 vintage is a dark ruby color and a medium to full bodied French oak flavor with notes of blackberries, espresso, raisin and spice. A fantastic vintage and tannin structure make this balanced wine age worthy to be savored or enjoyed immediately.

The 2019 vintage is a full body wine with aromatic and exquisite notes of plum, vanilla and toasty oak that boasts depth, richness and elegance with well-integrated tannins.
