Chad Holliday received a BFA from Emporia State University, Kansas and an MFA in glass sculpture and metal fabrication/jewelry design from the Rochester Institute of Technology, New York. After completing his graduate work, Chad accepted an artist in residence at the Grand Crystal Museum in Taipei, Taiwan. During this residency Holliday collaborated with artists and art educators, working directly with their students in the studio and classroom.
He has worked with Martin Blank as an assistant on the hot shop team and was the full-time cold sculptor, performing all of his cutting and polishing. Simultaneously, Holliday owned and operated third-hand - Glass Cutting & Polishing Tools, a small business distributing and promoting glass equipment from the Czech Republic, and worked as a consultant to artists and glass studios and continued teaching while performing consistent research.
Chad's artwork has been published in the New Glass Review. Holliday has been nominated fort the Art, Craft Design Award for several consecutive years. He has had acquisition by multiple museums including The Museum of Glass, Tacoma, Washington and The Museum of Applied Arts, Prague, Czechia. In 2009, Chad was honored as a featured emerging artist in "American Style" magazine. This was an incredible opportunity for Holliday to introduce his current body of work. At this time the article was followed up with a series of exhibitions.
In addition to working in glass, Bill is a successful painter. He earned his B.S. Degree in art education and received his M.A. Degree in painting from Eastern Michigan University. He is represented in several private collections and has exhibited nationally and internationally. He was commissioned to paint a 60 foot mural at the Fairlane Town Center in Dearborn, Michigan.
He began to formally study glass about ten years ago at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. He has worked with several nationally known glass artists including Hank Adams, Herb Babcock, Albert Young, and Fred Birkhill. Bill has exhibited his work at the Alfred Berkowitz Gallery at the University of Michigan. Joesph T. Marks (Curator of Collections & Exhibits) wrote, "Bill very successfully develops unique artistic styles in various formats. Bill has the perfect combination of technical expertise and creativity in his work."
Bill presently maintains a studio at the Russell Industrial Center in Detroit.
Stanis?aw Borowski, one of the big names in the European studio glass movement of the late 1970s, has proven a so far unknown quality with his engraved and sculptural works. He has presented it convincingly to a broad public in numerous exhibitions in Europe, Asia and the USA.
Stanis?aw Borowski plays virtuously with the versatile design techniques of glass. Over the years, an intensive complex of works has developed that deals with the political issues of his time and with human existence.
The results are mouth-blown, multi-overlaid hollow bodies that are engraved and assembled together with sculptures freely shaped on the glass pipe to complex sculptural compositions.
Magan is co-founder of R.K.S. Glass Studios and received her training and B.F.A. at the Tyler School of Art, Temple University in Philadelphia. She has received numerous awards including scholarships to both Pilchuck Glass School, Washington, and the Studio at Corning Museum of Glass in New York. Magan was awarded the "Outstanding Emerging Glass Artist" prize from The Hilbert Sosin Fund, Florida Art Alliance in 2001 and a Fellowship to the Creative Glass Center of America, in Millville, New Jersey in 2000.
Bethany Wheeler is an artist based in Melbourne, Australia and her practice encompasses studio glass sculpture, jewelry and design objects. She obtained a Master of Fine Art degree from Monash University in 2003 and has been exhibiting her work both nationally and internationally for 20 years. She has several years of experience as a Studio Technician, Lecturer and Trainer, teaching and assisting in many kiln forming and casting workshops. In 2013 she established 1000 Degrees Glass Studios, a communal kiln forming and cold working studio in Melbourne. Her success is recognized both nationally and internationally via extensive exhibitions, corporate and public commissions. Bethany's work can be found in private and public collections including the National Glass Art Collection of Australia.
Bethany is Director of 1000 Degrees Glass Studios and Bespoke Awards, an arts business creating handmade awards, tokens of recognition and appreciation, and gifts of protocol in glass.
Sydney Cash's work has been commissioned by the Metropolitan Transit Authority, the Museum of Modern Art, the Falcon in Marlboro, New York, and many other private, public and corporate agencies. Cash's work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries throughout the United States and abroad, including OK Harris Gallery-NYC, Heller Gallery-NYC, Carpe Dium Gallery-Paris, Orlando Museum of Art, Retretti Art Museum-Punkaharju, Finland, Detroit Institute of Art. He has received a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant, the Fellissimo Award, as well as fellowships from The National Endowment for The Arts and from the New York Foundation for The Arts. He's involved with Buddhism and the Diamond Approach. He enjoys swimming, gardening, speaking French, and his family.
Wes Hunting never had an early interest in glass in particular, but always had an interest in creativity. He was introduced to glassmaking in 1976, and started Hunting Glass Studio in 1982. He currently works with his son, Wesley, and they are always striving to take their work to a new level of intensity.
Natalie Hope McDonald is a writer and artist based in Philadelphia. Her work has been exhibited in group and solo shows, and belongs in both private and corporate collections around the world. She's also a muralist who's painted on site at both the Museum of Glass in Seattle and the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia.
Buzz has been blowing glass since 1969. He is from a family of artists. The family glassblowing studio flourished in the small Southern California artist beach community of Leucadia. Blodgett Glass has produced many lines starting with the "Music In Glass" line of bells and windchimes (1972-1982) followed by "Bubble Lites" (1975), "Space Lites" (1977) and "Sea Foam (1981). These lines continually evolved and were refined over the years and in 1978 an important Swedish influence was discovered.
Buzz learned many new techniques from the Swedish glassblower and currently uses them in many of his glass creations. He says "I was always impressed with the frozen liquidity of glass, which seemed to mesh with my love for the ocean and surfing." In 1987 he took over the operation of Blodgett Glass in California. He has had exhibitions at the Corning Museum and has exhibited his glass in galleries in Seattle, California and New York since 1975. All his glass is handmade using the same methods utilized since ancient times and it is signed and dated.

Transitioning from the business world to being a full time artist has been a gradual process.
I have always loved the process of making art. Since following a course in off-loom beadweaving in 1997, creating beadwoven art has been my focus and passion.
Beads and beadwork have been around since ancient times. In recent years, bead art created with a modern twist on age old techniques has been growing as a visible contemporary art form.
I create ornamental works in the form of wall art, sculptural objects, and jewellery.
In my work I use a particular type of tiny cylindrical glass bead that interlocks evenly when woven. This results in a fabric-like patterned surface which could be flat or dimensional depending on technique used.
The interplay of light on the beads is an important part of my design. The desired result is achieved by using a varying selection of beads from opaque to translucent, each of which has different light reflecting qualities.
Beadweaving is extremely time consuming. A square inch of beading contains nearly 300 beads. Countless hours go into the design and creation of a piece.
My designs tend to be very detailed and ornate.
I am inspired by elaborate pattern and decoration found in cultural designs, textiles, architecture, ancient artifacts, the natural world, to name a few.
I aim to make work that is timeless, pleasing to the eye and evokes curiosity in a viewer.
I am constantly experimenting with new ideas in order to create unique one-off pieces.
Artist, designer, and educator, Professor Emeritus John Leighton, headed glass programs at San Francisco State University and California State University, Fullerton for a total of 37 years. He still teaches a class or two each semester at CSUF. He has been a Visiting Professor at the Tokyo Glass Art Institute and at Osaka University of Art. His work is included in many private and public collections including the National Museum of American Art of the Smithsonian Institution, the Corning Museum of Glass, the Oakland Museum, the Ebeltoft Glasmuseum in Denmark, the Lemberk Castle, in the Czech Republic, the Notojima Glass Museum, and the Kanazu Art Museum in Japan. John has twice been invited to work at the International Glass Symposium, in the Czech Republic and was awarded Honorary Lifetime Membership in the International Glass Art Society.
Peter Vanderlaan and his wife Mary Beth Bliss share an exceptional partnership as they explore innovative optical designs in glass. Their glass sculpture series is a result of Bliss' creative ideas combined with Vanderlaan's understanding of the material.
Tommie Rush, a native of Mobile, Alabama, is a glass artist who lives and maintains a studio, Tomco Inc., in Knoxville, Tennessee. She began her early studies in ceramics which ultimately lead her to working in glass. By 1980, Tommie Rush began to share a studio space with renowned artist Richard Jolley, of whom she married several years later. Through tireless experimentation and the development of custom blended glass mixed in the studio, Tommie Rush has created a unique and identifiable style which has been celebrated in over 75 exhibitions and was honored in a retrospective exhibition at the Mobile Museum of Art in the spring of 2011. Her work can be found in numerous private and museum collections throughout the United States including the Sheldon Art Museum and Sculpture Garden in Lincoln, Nebraska, the Renwick Gallery in Washington D.C., the Tennessee State Museum, Nashville, Tennessee, among others. Most recently Tommie Rush completed a glass and welded steel site specific commission for the headquarters of Scripps Networks in Knoxville, Tennessee. As a tireless supporter of the arts, Tommie Rush has served on several national boards including the Glass Art Society in Seattle, Penland School of Craft, Asheville, North Carolina, and currently with the American Craft Council located in Minneapolis, Minnesota and is very active with her local arts community.
Emma Varga has created a diverse body of sculptural work using her complex and laborious multiple-layer technique. Her creative process is a highly focused, but incredibly calming, game in which she "plays" with thousands of tiny glass elements that are strategically assembled with precision, to achieve the intended internal energy, light flow, and pattern. Varga lives and works in Sydney, Australia.
Kazumi Ikemoto uses imaginary half-man, half-beast creatures in scenes vaguely reminiscent of something "you have seen before". The upturned, innocent eyes of the characters, not unlike those found in contemporary styles of animation and comics often associated with Japanese contemporary art, rivet the viewers. Floating above architectural realms that reflect the years he spent in Italy, his 360 degree scenes are depicted around the curved surface of large glass vessels. Ikemoto depicts a hazy world of chaotic memories where reality and fantasy intersect, half where the past and the present co-exist.
His images appear to be painted on the glass but are instead created by an elaborate process that produces a rich depth of hues: using a simple nozzle he blows vitreous enamel pigments onto the glass surface, then removes excess pigments with a brush and fires the layer at a temperature of 560 degree C. He repeats the process layer by layer of color.
In addition to his career as an independent artist, Ikemoto is a professor at the Tama Art Institute, where the first glass art program in Japan was established. His work is exhibited in galleries and museums throughout Asia, Europe and the USA.
Steve Tobin graduated from Tulane University in 1979 with a BS in mathematics. From there, he pursued his artistic career with study in glass at Pilchuck Glass School, WA and Penland School of Crafts, NC. Teaching appointments and fellowships in glass followed, and in 1989, he became the first foreigner invited to build his own studio in Murano, Italy. In 1994, Tobin built his first bronze foundry, and began to cast bronze. Tobin's work has been exhibited at numerous museums and outdoor venues, including: The American Museum of Natural History, New York City; Lincoln Park, Chicago, Illinois; Laumeier Sculpture Park, St. Louis, Missouri; and Sculpturesite Gallery, San Francisco, California. The artist currently works and resides in Bucks County, PA.
Early morning on sunny days, a limited number of people are allowed into a massive cave system in Central Java, Indonesia. First, you're repelled 150 feet down into a sinkhole. After hiking a while in slick, deep mud in a pitch-black cave, we came to this vision: sunlight streaming into a magnificent 200-foot-tall sinkhole, an underground river rushing far below us. The light rays on this morning were simply magical, and I never want to forget looking up in awe at such a spellbinding sight.
Heather Ujiie grew up in NYC's Greenwich Village, part of a family of artist educators, and believes her creativity comes from a lively bohemian childhood. She is an Interdisciplinary Assistant Professor at Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia, and her installations and artwork have been exhibited both nationally and Internationally. She has participated in exhibits at Hangaram Museum of art, and the Seoul Art Center in Korea, The Salon Art & Design Fair at the Park Ave. Armory in NYC, The State Museum of Pennsylvania, Delaware Art Museum, Hunterdon Museum of Art, Racine Art Museum, Delaware Center for Contemporary Art, Philadelphia International Airport, and the Samuel S. Fleisher Art Memorial Museum
Heather Ujiie holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Visual Art from the State University of New Paltz, New York, New York State Certification in Art Education K-12 from Brooklyn College, and an Associate's Degree in Textile Surface Design, from The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She has over 15 years of experience as a textile designer, designing printed textiles for the high-end home furnishing and apparel markets in New York City. Her commercial printed textile designs have had numerous clients including Flavor Paper, and The White House private residences for President George W. Bush and Laura Bush, in Washington D.C. She has also designed costumes for experimental theater and Dance in NYC, including The Julliard School and Jean Cocteau Repertory Theater.
With an organic, painterly style, Karen Ehart draws her inspiration from nature: sea life, microscopic images, a rock-filled stream bed. The many places she has lived, from the tropics to the desert, have influenced the evolution of her work.
Karen Ehart's work is unique in the sculptural quality of her pieces and the unusual surface design. She spends a great deal of time on the original sculpture and the mold-making process. Each piece is individually designed and handcrafted by the artist.
Karen Ehart was raised in a very creative family with diverse skills where craftsmanship was valued and encouraged. She picked up a glass cutter in 1984 and was ruined for any other work. She has experimented with glass continuously, taking workshops and working for major studios while developing her own technique and design style.
Known for his impeccable attention to detail, Marc Zakroff is a Mixed-Media Collage Artist based in Philadelphia. His unique style reflects an imaginative vision which expands the definition of storytelling through art.
Marc produces abstract collages using mass media images, comics, and found material laid flat on deep-cradled hardboard. His original works have images wrapped around the entire border and are covered with a clear polyurethane finish to provide a smooth final product that brings his art to life.
There's a method to his madness. Over the years, Marc has refined his technique and produced an innovative style that reflects his energy and creativity.
Marc draws influence from the images that flash before our eyes everyday. He blends iconic images of the past and present to produce stunning visual depictions that stand the test of time.
Born in Newport News, Virginia, Hayman studied literature at Hollins College (now Hollins University) in Roanoke, VA., studied art in Paris, and later moved to Philadelphia to attend the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
Major exhibitions over the past years include those at Cerulean Arts (Philadelphia), Goggleworks (Reading, PA), Lake Eustis Museum of Art (Florida), Rosenfeld Gallery (Philadelphia), James Oliver Gallery (Philadelphia), and Arlington Arts Center (Virginia). Selected group shows and invitationals include InLiquid-Crane Arts - "Nursery Rhymes for Questionable Times" (Philadelphia); The National Liberty Museum - "Deconstructing Bowie," "Philly's Freedom" - (Philadelphia); Art in City Hall (Philadelphia), The Philadelphia Foundation (with the Philadelphia Art Alliance), and the Heller Museum (NYC), "One Nation".
Hayman's studio practice for the past 20 years has focused mainly on social issues (gun violence, politics, death customs, and the inner lives of artists), but has always embraced text as an image.
Sunset in the world's oldest desert is not to be missed, though getting to this very spot isn't all that easy. After white-knuckle driving a 4x4 vehicle for miles through the deep sand of Namib-Naukluft National Park, we ventured into the desert with few directions, as the wind had covered any prior footsteps. For a long time we searched, and I decided to go over one more sand dune when all of a sudden, I found Deadvlei. A dried-up salt pan with 1,000-year-old preserved trees, it looks like art, surrounded by sand that changes color with the setting sun.
Taylor Backes was conceived in 1982 by Karla Trinkley and Will Dexter. Both of whom were making and showing their work in fine art galleries; however, they wanted to pursue an alternative body of work geared towards the design and consumer market.
In order to separate this new work from their personal pieces Taylor Backes, the name derived from the maiden names of their respective mothers, was introduced.
Immediately successful, the collaboration has led to work made with the highest quality craftsmanship and an eye toward fine design. As Taylor Backes evolved new designs were introduced, some of which are one of a kind and more a reflection of Dexter-Trinkley's individual artwork.
Anthony Corradetti moved his thriving glassblowing business to Clipper Mill in 2005 after an already accomplished career spanning 30 years. His works are included in many private, corporate and museum collections.
Paul Stankard is an internationally acclaimed artist and pioneer in the studio glass movement. He is considered a living master in the art of the paperweight, and his work is represented in more than 70 museums around the world. In 1961, he enrolled in Salem County Vocational Technical Institute's Scientific Glassblowing program (now Salem Community College). During his ten year scientific glassblowing career, he became a master of fabricating complex instruments. In 1972, Paul left industry to pursue his dream of being creative in glass fulltime.
Over his forty-year artistic journey, he has received two honorary doctorate degrees, one honorary associates degree and many awards within the glass community, most recently the Masters of the Medium Award from Smithsonian's The James Renwick Alliance, Glass Art Society's Lifetime Achievement Award and American Craft Council College of Fellows. He is an Artist-in-Resident and Honorary Professor at Salem Community College.
He was born Corrado 'Dino' Martens in Venice. Like many of the great Murano glass designers of the 20th century, Dino Martens was an accomplished painter. Working with the Aureliano Toso glass factory he produced a remarkable series of vases between 1946 and 1960 which combined traditional Venetian techniques with bold colors and asymmetrical forms.
He regularly participated in the Venice Biennale between the years of 1924 through 1934. In 1947, Martens was appointed the artistic director of Aureliano Toso where he remained until retiring in 1959. Martens passed away in 1970.
JP Long is a widely collected sculptor and artist residing in the San Francisco Bay Area; he is represented by fine art galleries in Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, Sonoma, Palm Desert, and Toronto. Born in Boston, MA, he studied jewelry/metal arts at California College of the Arts. For over a decade, he has worked with internationally acclaimed artist Bella Feldman and shares studio space with her in Oakland, CA.
Long's career launched in the mid-2000s with a series of large glass-and-steel sculptures brimming with tensions and unexpected harmonies. Impressed by the force of primary colors, he added planes of color to his steel sculptures-to striking effect. Long also developed a series of canvasses parallel to his sculptural work, featuring breathtaking oxidation and carbon patterns, most recently against bold fields of color.
Resonant with modernist geometry and a minimalist aesthetic, Long's artwork probes spectrums of serendipity and structure. Controlled experimentation lends texture to his work-e.g., hand blown glass in his sculptures or unpredictable oxidation and carbon patterns in his canvasses. This technique, along with their eye-catching compositions, electrifies the pieces with a sense of impending animation. In his ongoing investigation of form, mass, and movement, Long imaginatively negotiates the physical capacities, as well as the conceptual opportunities, of his diverse materials.
Tim holds a BFA from Temple University's Tyler School of Art with a concentration in Glass, but his talents go far beyond formal training. Tim began his career in glassblowing in 1998, and his passion and talents led him to work in prestigious studios across the country-including Philadelphia, Seattle, and Asheville, NC.
William and Katherine Bernstein
Jean-Claude Novaro was a French artist considered one of the greatest glassmakers of the 20th century. Novaro's lamps, bottles, and vases utilized Art Deco-inspired shapes to create swirling, colorful forms. He pioneered techniques that included adding and layering unique materials directly into molten glass, such as metal oxides, precious stones, and luminescent powders that glow in the dark. In recognition of his ambition with his medium, Novaro is included in the Guinness Book of World Records as the maker of the largest hand-blown glasswork ever created. Born on October 18, 1943, in Antibes, France, he began studying glassmaking at age 14 under Eloi Monod in Biot before founding his own studio there in 1977. The artist died on December 30, 2014, in Monaco at the age of 72.
Dagmar Pánková was born in 1971 in ?eská Lípa. After graduating from the Secondary School of Applied Arts, where she studied painting on glass, worked as a designer in the company Egermann-Exbor, where she created her first utility designs.In 1995 she travelled to Great Britain, where she attended courses in ceramics under the guidance of artist David Fry (Newcastle upon Tyne). In 1997, already as a freelance artist, she began to work on her new collections, in cooperation with leading Czech glass companies.
In 2005, she founded a design studio Bystro Design along with her partner L. Smejkal, and started to create design series for the studio at a larger scale.Dagmar Pánková has always placed emphasis on the utility of forms, but her work also has its own hyperbole and wit. Some collections, such as Walt Disney Presents, are full of gesture and caricature, a set of bowls "Pads" with sanded inscriptions in Gothic script refers sarcastically to old German sayings.

Eric Hernandez is a contemporary American glass artist. Hernandez graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2012. In 2015, Hernandez participated in The Works Artist in Residence Program.
He is based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Guy Brudahl is a Bucks County artist whose primary mediums are blown glass, photography, and the written word. Raised on the banks of the Mississippi, and the bluffs of Wisconsin; the wonderment and spirit of nature quickly became a key element in the creative process. As a former board member of the Arts and Culture commission of Middletown, Director of Panasonic's Kid Witness News Program, and President of the Tyler Literary Society, Guy has worked to promote and create art whenever possible. Though not prolific, he is inspired by nature and the elements of man's creations that either harmonize or conflict in natural spaces. Working environmentally, or from the glass studio of the Hicks Arts Center in Newtown Pennsylvania, he applies unorthodox techniques to create works that capture the emotion of humanity and the beauty of nature.
Tomas Hlavicka was born in Prague in 1950 and earned a degree in architecture. The beginning of a career shift occurred in 1976 when he began working with his father-in-law, Pavel Hlava (a founder of the Czech School of Glass). This experience exposed Tomá? to many areas of glass technology including cutting and polishing. Architecture remained his main focus until 1990 when he began working closer with Pavel Hlava and by 1997 was creating his own body of work.The first exhibition of Tomas Hlavicka's work was held at Habatat Galleries in Florida during the same year. He has pioneered the exploration of fusing sheets of silver and gold foils between layer of glass. The resulting sculptures create mesmerizing visual effects of space and movement as colors intertwine, light shifts or ones point of view changes. Hlavicka has work in important collections in the United States, Europe and Asia.
Will Dexter received a BFA degree from Tyler School of Art in Elkins Park, PA and a master degree from the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design. His work has been exhibited throughout the world and is in the permanent collections of museums including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, The American Craft Museum and The Chase Manhattan Bank Collection. He has lectured and taught at the world renowned Pilchuck Glass School, Seattle; Penland School of Crafts, NC; Sumervail, Colorado; and the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence.
Jonathan Mandell is a fine art artist living in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania. Mandell's talent lies in the implementation of fundamental fine art concerns, such as perspective, color composition, and drawing into the medium of mosaic. Utilizing such materials as glass shards, ceramic tile, semiprecious stones, minerals, mirrors, and marbles, Mandell creates wall-mounted panels, which evolve into what he calls, "tactile paintings". His grout lines act as drawing lines, bringing his imagery to life. The glass shards are not flat, but rather are convex and concave pieces. This allows for a study of the surface topography of the mosaic.
Mandell's fine art mosaics can be seen at well-known institutions such as museums and foundations. His work is on permanent display at the National Constitution Center, The National Liberty Museum, The University of Pennsylvania, Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the McGraw Hill Company in New York, Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center in Skokie, Illinois, among other sites throughout the United States. His latest public project is a 10 ft. x 6 ft. mosaic created for the main entranceway of the new Lower Merion High School in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, detailing its illustrious history.

Born in 1947 in the Czech Republic, Vladimir Prochazka is a renowned artist of architectural glass and molten glass sculpture. He studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design in Prague and, not long after graduating, began creating glass sculptures and fountains for numerous public and private buildings in the Czech Republic. One of his best-known creations is the glass luminous bridges at the Czech House of Parliament, which have been declared a National Cultural Monument. All of his designs, be they fountains, glass ceilings, lighting fixtures, or sculptures, are united by a sense of grandeur balanced with his innovative use of traditional shapes and techniques. Prochazka continues to live and work in the Czech Republic, and his creations have won both the gold (2004) and silver (2001) medals at The International Exhibition of Glass in Japan.
Since 2012, Jennifer Caldwell and Jason Chakravarty have maintained a critical, conceptual, and technical dialogue about their individual work, which easily evolved to collaborative pieces. Over the past couple years they have mounted multiple two person exhibitions which included work that challenges the experimental process specific to each of them. Within these compositions, Jennifer included flame worked components that represented her mastery of the process while Jason's contribution was cast and blown glass. Jennifer utilizes a lot of sea life while Jason includes imagery that man uses to access the sea. IE Man and Nature in Nature. The finished compositions have been published in glass magazines and generously collected.
Jennifer Caldwell AKA Umphress creates work that draws inspiration from her environment. Born and raised in California, she began working with glass in 2000 while living in Hawaii. Caldwell now lives and works in Kingston, Washington, where the Pacific Ocean continues to influence her work. "Although my inspiration comes from the ocean, I am most intrigued by capturing movement. I try to emulate the movement of sea life in a simple contemporary form," says Caldwell in her personal statement.
Jason Chakravarty began incorporating glass through the use of neon into his sculpture in 1998 while attending Arizona State University. He was employed for four years at a commercial neon sign shop where he learned technical fundamentals of the neon process. In 2002 he began illuminating hot shop forms and kiln casting glass while attending graduate school at California State University Fullerton.
Tim Tate is co-founder of the Washington Glass Studio in Washington, DC. Tim's work is in the permanent collections of a number of museums, including the Smithsonian's American Art Museum. He was also the 2010 recipient of the Virginia Groot Foundation award for sculpture, 2nd place in the 2017 London Contemporary Art Prize, and is a 2018 James Renwick Alliance Distinguished Artist, among many other awards.
He taught in Istanbul in August 2007 and at Penland School on several occasions and was the featured artist for the 2018 annual auction. He was the Development Chair for the Penland Board of Trustees from 2014 to 2018 and is the Program Chair for the James Renwick Alliance.
He received his Fulbright Award from Sunderland, University in England in 2012. In 2018 he was asked to speak at Yale University by speak on Craft and Conflict by Glenn Adamson to represent the Queer community and its history of art activism.
He participated in the Glasstress show with Ai Wei Wei and Vic Muniz during the 2019 Venice Biennale and the Boca Raton Museum Glasstress show in January of 2021 and in October of the same year his work was exhibited at the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Michael Biello is a ceramic sculptor who draws inspiration from his Italian-American roots and his passion for theatre. He is one of the artisan/makers who helped create the revivals of Old City Philadelphia in the 1970's and Noho New York in the 1990's. Biello's work has been exhibited internationally and is in numerous private collections including many in the entertainment industry.
Ivana Šrámková is among the significant Czech artists working in cast glass who are responsible for keeping glass sculpture relevant to contemporary art. She studied with Stanislav Libensky at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague at a time when Czech glass underwent a dramatic change. The figure reemerged, and expressive forms containing stories, emotion, texture, and color experienced a widespread revival.
Since the late 1980s Šrámková has made full-scale sculptures from carved plaster molds which are then cast in glass. The large sculptures are assembled from sections that interlock like the pieces of a puzzle, engineering and balance binding them together.
Her sculptures contain, simultaneously, intense colored light and monumental ephemeral qualities. Her objects are basic figurative forms, both animal and human, that are reduced to their essence in a language of simple geometric symbols. What makes them accessible is Šrámková's ability to give them just enough of the archetypal to make them identifiable, just enough gesture to endow them with wit, and just enough reference to make them universal. Her sculptures are positioned comfortably in the timeless continuum of art and artifact.
Born in 1941 in Tacoma, Washington, Dale Chihuly was introduced to glass while studying interior design at the University of Washington. After graduating in 1965, Chihuly enrolled in the first glass program in the country, at the University of Wisconsin. He continued his studies at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where he later established the glass program and taught for more than a decade.In 1968, after receiving a Fulbright Fellowship, he went to work at the Venini glass factory in Venice. There he observed the team approach to blowing glass, which is critical to the way he works today. In 1971, Chihuly cofounded Pilchuck Glass School in Washington State. With this international glass center, Chihuly has led the avant-garde in the development of glass as a fine art. His work is included in more than 200 museum collections worldwide. He has been the recipient of many awards, including two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and twelve honorary doctorates.
Chihuly has created more than a dozen well-known series of works, among them, Cylinders and Baskets in the 1970s; Seaforms, Macchia, Persians, and Venetians in the 1980s; Niijima Floats and Chandeliers in the 1990s; and Fiori in the 2000s. He is also celebrated for large architectural installations. In 1986, he was honored with a solo exhibition, Dale Chihuly objets de verre, at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Palais du Louvre, in Paris. In 1995, he began Chihuly Over Venice, for which he created sculptures at glass factories in Finland, Ireland, and Mexico, then installed them over the canals and piazzas of Venice.
In 1999, Chihuly started an ambitious exhibition, Chihuly in the Light of Jerusalem; more than 1 million visitors attended the Tower of David Museum to view his installations. In 2001, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London curated the exhibition Chihuly at the V&A. Chihuly's lifelong fascination for glasshouses has grown into a series of exhibitions within botanical settings. The Garden Cycle began in 2001 at the Garfield Park Conservatory, in Chicago, and continued at several locations, among them the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, near London, in 2005, and the New York Botanical Garden, in the Bronx, in 2006 and again in 2017. Meanwhile, Chihuly has exhibited at other venues as well, including the de Young Museum in San Francisco, in 2008; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, in 2011; the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, in 2012; the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, in 2013; the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, in 2016; and the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Bentonville, Arkansas, in 2017. In addition, Chihuly Garden and Glass, a major long-term exhibition, opened at Seattle Center in 2012.
Czeslaw Zuber began his journey with glass by designing utility forms. The artist graduated from the State College of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, where he studied under Zbigniew Horbowy and Ludwik Kiczura. After finishing school, he designed for the 'Barbara' Glassworks in Polanica Zdroj. Following Zuber's idea, the glassworks created glass vases and ashtrays with a 'rolled up' collar, today is commonly known as 'donkeys.' They are well known to all design enthusiasts. The experiments with colorful metallurgically formed glass and other experiences gained at the glassworks made the realization of Zuber's later projects considerably easier.
The play with light and texture turns Zuber's sculptures into incredibly energetic and expressive compositions. The transparent glass, enriched with neon and contrasting in colors enamel, scatters sun rays, creating unique visual effects. The uneven texture bearing traces of the violent strokes made using the carving tools creates an ideal plan for a multi-level play of light and color.
Cherry Goldblatt has been interested in the arts and involved in crafts throughout her life. She states, "My work has evolved as I followed my visual path; each creative step led purposefully to the next." In 1985, she became co-owner of Renaissance Fine Arts gallery in Bethesda, MD. After 10 years, she left to pursue her creative passion. Without any formal training, Goldblatt developed her beading technique. Her original technique manipulates beads in a composition that tends to read as a mini-mosaic. The visual experience is about light, color, texture, and form. Cherry seeks to both paint and sculpt with beads. Her work is included in private collections, The Teapot Museum (NC) and B'nai Tzedek Synagogue. Currently, she is represented by Del Mano Gallery, Thomas Riley Gallery, and Studio E Gallery.
Czech artist and designer Vera Liskova (1924-1985) pioneered the technique of working borosilicate glass over an oxygen flame, which enabled her to make the large, abstract sculptures for which she is best known. Liskova studied at the State Graphic School in Prague from 1939 until it was closed during World War II; she graduated from the School of Applied Arts in 1949. She began her career as a designer of functional glassware, working for such glass companies as the Vienna-based J. & L. Lobmeyr and Moser. Liskova started to make her borosilicate glass sculptures in the late 1960s.
Abby Modell is a widely collected and acclaimed glass artist. She has exhibited collections at numerous fine art fairs and galleries including Scope Miami, Art New York, SOFA Chicago, Market Art + Design, Bridgehampton, and Architectural Digest Design Show, NYC. Modell's work is in and has been exhibited at private homes, corporate collections, and museums, including the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, the world headquarters of Morgan Stanley in New York City, the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach, the Wit Gallery installation at the Canyon Ranch, Lenox, MA, and the First International Biennale of Santorini, Greece. Commissioned collections include Bloomingdale's Holiday Windows in New York City, Royal Caribbean International's Symphony of the Seas luxury cruise ship, and the Faberge Big Egg Hunt in New York City.
Dylan's artwork explores the boundaries of human perception through the manipulation of light, space, and the physical properties of glass. Dylan's fascination with glass began as an elective in college after taking an introductory art course. Martinez studied the physical sciences for his major and outdoor education as a minor. His curiosity about the natural world and the intricacies of how it all operated fascinated him. Understanding just how to control molten glass became a major focus for several years of his practice.
After training with several notable artists around the world, Dylan gained the technical skills to master the material. His interests shifted from how the world operated to focusing on how one perceives it. Martinez's latest body of work explores techniques in which the viewer is presented with objects which trick the eye, Trompe L'oeil, or use the reflective and refractive properties of glass in configurations that fracture light in dynamic styles, allowing the viewer a moment of playful exploration.
Dylan Martinez earned his MFA in Glass at Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana. He has studied with master craftsman across the U.S. and abroad. Most recently Dylan completed a month-long residency working with Venetian glass masters in Murano, Italy. His sculptures are sought after internationally with exhibitions in the United States, Italy, France, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Taiwan, and Singapore. His artwork has been featured in several publications such as Elle Decoration UK, American Craft Magazine, Interior Design Magazine, and Aesthetica Magazine to name a few.
Rick Beck creates cast glass sculptures which focus on form and color; with subjects as varied as household items (spoons, forks, and pull toys) to the human figure. Whatever the topic is, in Beck's hands the subject is raised to new heights of meaning, both visually and conceptually.

Roberto Lugo is a Philadelphia-based artist, ceramicist, social activist, poet, and educator. Lugo utilizes classical pottery forms in conjunction with portraiture and surface design reminiscent of his North Philadelphia upbringing and Hip Hop culture to highlight themes of poverty, inequality, and racial injustice. Lugo's works reimagine traditional European and Asian ceramics, adding a 21st-century street sensibility. Their hand-painted surfaces feature classic decorative patterns and motifs combined with elements of urban life, graffiti and portraits of individuals who have been historically absent from traditional luxury vessels, individuals such as Sojourner Truth, Dr. Cornel West, and The Notorious BIG, as well as Lugo's family members and, very often, himself.
Lugo holds a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and an MFA from Penn State. His work has been featured in exhibitions at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, and the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, among others. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including a 2019 Pew Fellowship, a Cynthia Hazen Polsky and Leon Polsky Rome Prize, and a US Artist Award. His work is found in the permanent collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Philadelphia Museum of Art, The High Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Brooklyn Museum, Walters Art Museum, and more. He is currently an Assistant Professor at Tyler School of Art and Architecture in Philadelphia, PA.
