Joan's Garden of Life is a tribute to Joan Ann Stankowitz Richards and the memories that her daughter, Beth Richards Ure, will carry with her to the next generation. Joan was diagnosed with cancer the summer before Beth's senior year in college. As a young adult, Beth became a caregiver to her mother. Joan passed away the following winter, on December 23rd, 1998. These photographs represent several events in Beth's life in relation to her mother. Over the past several years, Beth has held onto two dried roses: one a gift from Joan after Beth's college graduation; the second a flower from Joan's funeral. The rose surrounded by daisies represents Beth and her husband Jay's wedding. Modeling the tradition of handing the mothers of the bride and groom a rose, Beth placed a rose in a bouquet of daisies (Joan's favorite flower) during her wedding ceremony. The last photograph shows Beth physically holding memories of Joan in her hands while looking optimistically toward what the future will hold, knowing that her mother is still a part of her life and the life of the family she is creating.Shipping rates may apply if unable to pick-up night of the event.">Rachel Levin, "Joans Garden of LIfe," 51"x 24", photography
