Be a Gibbs Farmhand! Visit with, care for, and learn all about the Gibbs Farm animals, including chickens, geese, ducks, goats and sheep!

Your experience for up to six (6) people will include learning about the importance of farm animals to families like the Gibbs, assisting staff in feeding the animals and cleaning out their coops and pens. Your hard work will be rewarded with a delicious ice cream treat!

Please note that the Gibbs Farm animals are not petting zoo animals. While there may be an opportunity to pet and hand feed goats and to hold one of our chickens, all interaction is based on the willingness of the animal.

Help more children experience the joy of lacrosse, played for centuries by Dakota People, by donating for the purchase of a lacrosse set. Lacrosse sticks are utilized during the Dakota Tour and Dakota Camp and are purchased from a Native artisan. One set includes two (2) lacrosse sticks and one (1) leather ball.

From moving compost to collecting branches to shoveling animal poo, wheelbarrows are an essential tool for site work and animal care at the farm. Help Gibbs Farm maintain a tidy site by donating for the purchase of a brand-new wheelbarrow.

The two tipi at Gibbs Farm are integral to over half our programming including the Dakota history field trips (year-round!), St. Paul Kindergarten field trips, summer camps, and public tours.

Students LOVE the tipi and are always excited to learn about it and go inside. There are often audible gasps as they enter the tipi to learn about Dakota winter life and storytelling. As the site maintains one tipi year-round for winter programing, covers degrade quickly and need to be replaced every few years. One cover costs $2,000.

Historical costuming is essential to set the scene for Gibbs pioneer-era programming! Gibbs Farm provides costumes for staff and volunteers to demonstrate clothing from pioneer days, enriching the student and guest experience. A high quality, handmade prairie dress lasts several years.

Safety precautions are of the utmost importance at the Gibbs Farm site. Your contribution towards the purchase of AEDs for both the Red Barn and Annex Office buildings will allow Gibbs Farm to utilize financial resources on more direct student and guest experiences. $1,500 purchases one (1) AED, we are hoping to buy two (2).
