In the spring of 2022, long time local animal advocate Barb Smith passed away, and the pets of Topeka mourned deeply. This photo of her introducing her cat to a bird demonstrates the peaceful nature she had with all creatures. The photo was originally taken by HHHS Volunteer Carol Myers, owner of Memory Makers Photography. In 2023, HHHS Volunteer Alisha was inspired by this portrait of Barb and her companions and created a digital watercolor painting of this image as part of Barb's legacy.
