Penstemon digitalis, commonly called Foxglove Beardtongue is a clump-forming, Illinois-native perennial which typically grows 3-5' tall and occurs in prairies, fields, wood margins, open woods and along railroad tracks. Features white, two-lipped, tubular flowers (to 1.25" long) borne in panicles atop erect, rigid stems. Flowers bloom mid-spring to early summer and are attractive to hummingbirds, butterflies, and other pollinators. Basal leaves are elliptic and stem leaves are lance-shaped to oblong.

Mass in sunny borders, rain gardens, wild gardens, native plant gardens or naturalized areas. Excellent for fresh cut flower arrangements.

Rudbeckia fulgida, commonly known as Black-eyed Susan, is an Illinois native perennial plant renowned for its long-lasting, showy golden-yellow flowers.

~Forms clumps of stiff, leafy stems, each ending in a daisy-like flower head. It typically stands about 2-4 feet tall and spreads about 18-24 inches wide and tends to form colonies in the wild.

~Flowers: The flowers, measuring 2-3 inches in diameter, are characterized by their vibrant orange-yellow rays and dark brownish-black central cones, hence the name Black-eyed Susan.

~Blooms profusely from mid-summer through early fall, and sometimes even until frost.
