No act of generosity is too small to make a difference.

Wisconsin Bike Fed's education programs are developing the next generation of cycling leaders.

Jean Carlos Aleman-Tenorio was interviewed by PBS about his "American Dream" and how fixing bikes and working with the Bike Fed fit into that.

"[There is] a feeling of accomplishment that you fixed a bike and gave it to someone who needs to, or wants to ride a bike, and it gives me joy and - hey I did something for someone else! This fits in my American dream that it's one part of giving back to the community. To have a fulfilling job, to be happy, and do what I'm doing to help others along the way." - Jean Carlos Aleman-Tenorio

Jean, now 22, was born in Chihuahua, Mexico. He is a DACA recipient that was introduced to the Bike Fed as a freshman at Escuela Verde High School. That summer, he joined the Bike Fed's Mobile Bike Repair team as a volunteer. Eventually Jean was able to become a paid summer intern through the generosity of Bike Fed donors.

Each summer, Jean was ready and willing to rejoin the team providing free bike repairs to kids and adults in parks and at community centers. With each passing year, not only did his mechanic skills improve, but his communication and customer service skills continued to grow. As his confidence in his skills increased, he felt more comfortable talking with those who brought their bike's for repair - asking them questions and explaining the process to them.

In the Fall of 2020, Jean was hired as a Safe Routes to School Instructor. His Spanish language skills and youthful exuberance make him a valuable Bike Fed employee and improves our ability to connect with the kids and families we serve. Jean's story is one of commitment and growth and highlights exactly why these programs are important.

Please consider donating today to help us continue to have this sort of impact on young leaders in our communities and grow the next generation of cyclists!
