Why We Do It

The Redlands Symphony believes music has the power to heal, inspire, and energize the mind, body, and spirit. Part of our mission is to provide musical experiences in our community that provide community togetherness, an outlet for emotional and mental expression, and ways in which to engage with friends and neighbors that bear lasting connections. Through our OrKIDstra field trip program, our summer engagement activities, concerts in the Memorial Chapel, and more, the Redlands Symphony provides spaces for children and families to escape the everyday and experience calm, peace, and transformation through music.

Your support through events like the Purse Party enables us to provide these experiences at no-cost or low-cost for children in our area. A few ways in which your auction item purchases, donations, and support matter:

• All transportation costs for schools attending OrKIDstra performances is 100% subsidized by Redlands Symphony to ensure all students, regardless of socio-economic status, family situation, or other limiting factors are able to participate in the program
• Specific curriculum is created by certificated teachers and arts educators that link musical learning to other content areas including English/Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. This curriculum is provided free of charge for school districts, homeschool groups, and private/charter/parochial schools.
• Providing instruments for community events where children and families can explore the art of music making as a means of self expression
• Supporting summer extension programs for students to work with professional musicians in the creation of music and the development of self-expression and musical thinking
