Owls in the Barn Quilt,. made Spring 2024
Notes from Claudia Reynolds
All quilts tell a story.
This quilt was inspired by the owl babies in a news release from CRC's Raptor Hospital. A quick sketch of the babies and the idea for the quilt was born.
The background block is a traditional block called log cabin. It is one of the oldest patterns known. The set of blocks is called barn raising. The owls are raw edged applique and are thread painted and quilted in place. The nest was fun to make. I actually went to my scrap can and pulled out uneven strips of and strings to "weave" the nest. I hope you can see the expressions on each owl. I started to call the baby birds Winken, Blinken, and Nod.
The fabric is 100% cotton with a cotton batting. There is a sleeve on the back for hanging or it can be used for a cuddle. The owl's feathers may fluff a bit more after washing. This is all part of the quilt's story. Wash on delicate. Line or machine dry. No bleach.
