When Schweiger Vineyards first started in 1984, it was to fulfill Fred and Sally Schweiger's dream of growing grapes on property they had owned in Napa County for over 20 years. Back then, there was no Spring Mountain District and very few vineyards were established in the region. By 1994, Spring Mountain had become one of Napa's top spots to source Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux-style grapes. That year, Fred and Sally tapped their son, Andy, to begin making small amounts of wine from their estate. While the original focus was Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, Andy wanted to add diversity to the Schweiger wine portfolio, planting Cabernet Franc and Malbec, and giving birth to their Bordeaux-style blend, Dedication .
