Two Day Sail Lake Superior's Apostle Islands

For Up to 4 People

Experience an exciting getaway in one of our most unique National Parks. The Apostle Islands - an archipelago of 22 islands located on Lake Superior's Wisconsin shore - have been called the Caribbean of the Great Lakes. Twenty-one of these islands along with 12 miles of the Wisconsin shoreline make up the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. The islands beckon to explorers who enjoy historical points of interest, interpretive areas, quiet sandy beaches and rocky shorelines with sea caves carved by the wind and water. Soaring eagles or bears walking on secluded beaches are not unusual sights. Six lighthouses built between 1857 and 1891, and two historic commercial fishing camps dot the islands and are available to visit. These along with abundant winds and calmer waters protected from the surge of the main lake make the Apostle Islands a yachtsman's paradise.

Sail with Captain Mike and first mate Sally aboard the 35 foot Gypsy Spirit, uniquely designed for comfortable cruising. With her large center cockpit and 3-cabin layout she has the room of a much larger boat. Gypsy Spirit offers private cabin accommodations for two couples or four people.

Captain Mike Montesinos, owner of the Gypsy Spirit, holds a US Coast Guard Commercial License to operate vessels up to 50 tons. He has been sailing for over 40 years, the last 20 in the Apostle Islands. One of his greatest pleasures is sharing with people the joys of cruising sailing.

During your cruise you may take part in sailing the boat and if you choose can learn a great deal about operating a sailing vessel. Captain Mike enjoys teaching "novices" about the skills and great pleasures in sailing.

Cruises begin and end near Bayfield, WI, a historic village about 60 miles east of Duluth, MN. Bayfield is a great destination itself with its rich history, good shopping and many quaint Bed and Breakfast Inns. Beginning or ending your cruise with a couple of days visiting Bayfield would be a great option.

Board Gypsy Spirit the evening before sailing. Sail to various points of interest in the islands as the winds allow on day one. Perhaps some hiking on island trails. Spend the night at anchor in the islands. Sail back to the marina in the afternoon day two.

You may provide your own meals and Snacks for the sailing adventure or, if you choose, for $25 per person Captain Mike will do the shopping and provide meals and snacks for your cruise. You may choose from several meal options. Guests provide their own beverages of choice.
