What is Glenwood?

Glenwood, founded in 1974, is Alabama's oldest and largest autism services provider. Glenwood provides behavioral health care and educational services for individuals with autism spectrum disorder or behavioral health needs. Glenwood touches the lives of over 10,000 children, adolescents, adults, and families in Alabama.

Why support Glenwood?

While symptoms may be subject to classification, people are not. At Glenwood, each person is treated as an individual. Evidence-based services and treatment are prescribed by professional staff who creatively tailor programs to enhance each person's opportunities for success. Equally important, Glenwood serves the families of each individual, encouraging family involvement to strengthen each individual's care.

How does Big Top support children with autism?

Testing and Diagnosis: 

Glenwood provides comprehensive assessments and can diagnose behavioral health needs or developmental delays including, but not limited to autism, ADHD, sensory processing disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, anxiety, and more. Your gift provides the opportunity for early intervention!

Therapy and Counseling:

Glenwood offers a variety of therapies that are tailored to individual needs. Therapy focuses on the child and their family for a wrap-around approach. Your gift helps each child reach their fullest potential!

24-Hour Care:

Glenwood has nine homes for children. Residents are provided year-round school, transportation, and community outings. All activities are supported by 24-hour staff caring for residents in each home. Your gift helps residents receive 24-hour support!

Year-Round School:

Autism and behavioral health don't take a summer break and neither do we. Our year-round schools offer a low student-to-staff ratio and a team approach between educators and therapists. Glenwood has two year-round schools that serve students from six years old up to 21 years of age. Each school specializes in a different age group including the Allan Cott School and Lakeview School. Your gift allows for great personal attention to each student!
