Honoring Lou Bach '82
President of Spectrum Pension and Compensation, Inc.
Ludwig H. (Lou) Bach, MSMC class of 1982, is the youngest of two children of ethnic German immigrants, Ludwig and Hildegard Bach, who immigrated to the United States in 1956. Lou has an older sister, Susan, who also graduated from MSMC in 1982.
Lou grew up in College Point, NY, which was once a small town in Queens, NY with many German, Irish, and Italian immigrants. He attended St. Fidelis, a Catholic elementary school, and had many Dominican Sisters as teachers from grades 1-8. After elementary school, Lou attended Holy Cross High School in Bayside, NY, which was an all-boys Catholic high school that was sponsored by the Brothers of Holy Cross.
The Bach Family moved from Queens to Warwick, NY in 1978 after Lou finished high school. Lou began his college career at Syracuse University and quickly realized Syracuse was not the place for him. In January 1979, Lou joined his sister, Sue, at Mount Saint Mary College.
Lou's parents were children during World War II, whose education was interrupted by the war. His father was a mason, who did his apprenticeship in Southern Germany after World War II, and his mother was a seamstress. His parents had a strong work ethic, which they conveyed to their children. Lou worked with his dad in construction until he graduated from MSMC in 1982.
Upon graduating from the Mount, Lou was fortunate to begin a career where he could use his Business degree and his mathematics skills, working for an Employee Benefits Consulting, Administration and Actuarial Services firm. This experience created the background and experience necessary for Lou to begin Spectrum Pension and Compensation, Inc. in 1994 and later add Summit Actuarial Services, LLC in 2002.
Lou is married to Maureen and is the proud father of four children; Ludwig M. Bach, Amelia Barry, Adam Bach, and Megan Bach, and the very proud grandfather of Ludwig W. Bach, Landon Bach, Liam Bach, and Jemma Barry.
Lou's connection to Mount Saint Mary College spans over 40 years, including serving as Chairman of the Golf Committee for many years and serving on the Board of Trustees from 2003 through 2012. Currently, Lou is a member of the Advancement Committee and is dedicated to assisting the Mount in charting its path into the future.
Honoring Ron Flaherty
President & CEO of TEG Federal Credit Union
Ron attended American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts, earning his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting in 1983. Ron married his college sweetheart, Karen Arduino Flaherty, in October 1984 and moved to Tarrytown, NY since she was already employed at IBM in Armonk.
Ron quickly gained employment with the CPA firm of Lassner, Memoli & Napolitano in White Plains, NY. In 1987, Ron and Karen bought their first home in Newburgh, NY, and had their daughter Erin in 1988. Karen became a stay-at-home mom and raised Erin while Ron continued the long commute to White Plains. Ron accepted a position with Judelson, Giordano & Siegal CPA's in Middletown, NY in 1989, eliminating the long commute to Westchester. Ron worked there for several years and accepted a position with Kahn, Inc. Realtors in Newburgh, NY as Controller for the firm. In 1997, Ron accepted a position as Chief Financial Officer at Freeplay Energy USA in Warwick, NY.
In October of 2000, Ron accepted a position as Chief Financial Officer at Taconic Education & Government (TEG) Federal Credit Union in Poughkeepsie, NY. Ron became President & CEO in 2010 and has led the credit union since, taking it from $67M in assets in 2000 to over $410M in assets today. Today, TEG represents much more than the original groups of teachers and governmental workers and is now a community-chartered credit union, serving over 41,000 members throughout Dutchess, Orange, Ulster, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, and Sullivan Counties.
It is now felt that TEG represents Together Everyone Grows, which more embodies what the credit union does and who they serve. TEG is a full-service financial institution providing products and services to the communities they serve. They have an outstanding staff and a volunteer Board & Supervisory Committee who always make sure they do the right thing for their entire membership.
Ron now also enjoys being a grandpa. He loves spending time with his granddaughter, Taylor, who is 3 years old, and his grandson, Kyle, who is 1.
