Medium: I based this watercolor painting on a photograph by Wen (used with permission). The child's expression drew me in. He seemed so resolute and determined.
Description: I started painting a few years ago. I've been fortunate enough to take workshops with Sharon Shapiro, Suzanna Reese Winton and Ted Nuttall. Faces have always fascinated me, especially the gorgeous variety in features and expressions.

Medium: A combination of watercolor, gouache, and acrylic
Description: "The Joy She Sees," is inspired by Lovie's mom when describing one of Lovie's most defining characteristics: the joyful way she sees the world. She shared the difference in typical "childhood joy" in comparison to the pure and very rare joy that Lovie experiences, and also gives to the world. The joy that Lovie sees in and gives to the world makes it a better place. This abstract landscape painting is inspired by Lovie's joy, with a realistic foreground that the viewer would experience behind her, contrasting with a bright and colorful landscape from Lovie's viewpoint. The view from Lovie's eyes is meant to convey the joy that Lovie sees in and brings to the world.
Size: 9" x 12"

Description: Spring is filled with hope and light bringing with it the renewal of the earth and life. These May poppies remind me that even in shadow, light penetrates to bring golden joy.
Size: 16" x 20"
Medium: Pencil and watercolor on paper
Description: My subject was Jack, a nature-loving, tree hugging toddler who happened to be born with cortical dysplasia. I chose the birch tree to represent Jack and his mother. Christina, and the connection between the two. In the Celtic culture, the birch tree is sacred, symbolizing rebirth and new beginnings. I personally love how the bark of the tree bears the wounds of weather and time, and wanted the deeper scars to signify Jack's significant brain surgery and his mother's open heart.
