This compilation of comics was inspired by The Simple Good's 'Sheroes of COVID-19' book, which shared stories about female sheroes from across the globe who stepped up their leadership to spread the simple good during the pandemic. We wanted to challenge our girls to also think of themselves as change agents in their worlds as Sheroes of Chicago- elevating their truths that they have discovered throughout the pandemic.

This book is written by BUILD Chicago's BUILDing Girls 2 Women youth who will share how they are Sheroes in their Chicago communities, depicting the ways they have used their meaning of the simple good to change their world. Read their stories and join their movement in order to create a better world… together.

"My 'simple good' is growth because I want to continue growing in different areas, but in a proper way. I don't want to rush the process because in doing so I won't end up with the results I'm seeking. My 'simple good' was inspired by the quote "He Who Would Climb a Ladder Must Begin at the Bottom." My 'simple good' is shown in my photo because when building a skyscraper you always start from the bottom to end with positive results. However, starting from the top is unrealistic and will have horrible results. Just like in real life, when you start something you have to take all the necessary steps to accomplish it. You can't just start from the top while skipping all the proper steps to reach there. This also showcases my journey in growing without rushing things. My 'simple good' is equality because I believe that people should be treated fair and have equal opportunities no matter their race, age, or even sexual preference. Since he was young, Chicago-based artist Trotter Alexander turned to drawing and doodling as the only form of his catharsis; Art gave him the power to create a world outside of the one he was living in. As he further honed his craft, his habit of drawing soon turned into his passion. And he wanted to direct his artistic visions to the world. Alexander felt as if his voice wasn't heard as a kid, so he wanted to make a new voice through art because that was how he best expressed himself. His works addresses topics such as drug use, depression, infatuation, self-hate/love, racial identity, existentialism, and insanity.
