Karamu means celebration in Swahili, and this year we will are celebrating Kiwimbi's 10th Anniversary! The Karamu will be filled with all of the excitement that this milestone deserves!

If you are one of the lucky 75 to secure an in-person ticket before they are sold out, you will enjoy Kenyan-inspired refreshments and our traditional signature drink, the dawa while gathering to spend time together once again.

Whether you join us in person or remotely, you will be front and center for an amazing Kenyan drum and dance performance as well as be the first to see the new Kiwimbi 10th Anniversary video, celebrating all that has been accomplished because of our partnership with you, the supporters who make everything possible.

And don't miss out on the opportunity to bid on items at our silent auction!  Opening in late September, the auction will feature unique Kenyan items including jewelry, art & crafts; special experiences & vacation opportunities; and more!

Ki-wim-bi  Swahili, Noun (Kih - whim- bee): A ripple; a wave

Our mission is to partner with underserved communities to create educational opportunities through locally run libraries and community learning centers.

Your view of the world may not yet include a community in rural western Kenya where children often walk barefoot for miles to schools that offer little more than desks, a blackboard, and a teacher who lacks resources necessary to enable students to succeed academically. We see a world where all people are empowered through education to enrich their lives and reach their fullest potential. We work towards accomplishing this goal in many ways:

  • Support underserved schools so students can pass a mandatory national exam
  • Prepare students in 3 schools (approximately 200 students) with focus on the foundational subjects of English and Math, and keeping them in school with a nutritious daily lunch
  • Foster learning with intensive small group tutoring and one-on-one mentoring
  • Provide access to books, newspapers and other resources in our Library, and satellite libraries and through regular delivery of books to over 70 schools in villages nearby
  • Provide vocational training for young adults
  • Provide agricultural training to enable farmers and families to grow crops more efficiently and to counter deforestation
  • Support cultural preservation with a museum of historical local artifacts and instruction in traditional crafts and skills
