This collaborative partnership with the Big Sky Rail Passenger Authority is a "first of its kind" for Xplorer Maps and a custom collaborative partnership we are very excited to be a part of.

The signed original artwork was rendered using the finest pen and ink brushes and finished with multiple watercolor washes layered throughout the process. From conception to completion, the artwork took approximately 3-4 months. Every line, letter, icon, and detail is drawn entirely by hand and is unique and original to this new map.

Led by Dan Bucks, there were numerous back and forth sessions with Greg and Chris Robitaille discussing and massaging the content, placement, design scale, and scope; making sure everything that was deemed essential and/or important was included wherever and whenever possible. Throughout the collaborative process, the artist's intent was to ensure that the RAIL LINES were the major focus and the supporting illustrations simply augmented the story and highlighted the regional differences bringing everyone together toward a common goal. The end result is a unique piece of art that effectively "tells the story" of the Greater Northwest Passenger Rail project and generates enthusiasm, and supports the passion of everyone involved.

AUTOGRAPHED, EMPIRE BUILDER FINE ART PRINT

This singular, unique print, signed by the artist, was donated for to the Big Sky Passenger Rail Authority Auction in conjunction with the Greater Northwest Passenger Rail Summit, in Billings, MT, in August 2022.

The original 'Empire Builder' artwork was created by Northern California graphic artist, Michael Schwab, in 2003 for the Amtrak print ad campaign which ran from 2004 through 2012. It was one of a series of works of art by the artist portraying the historic American train routes for Amtrak.

The 'Empire Builder' artwork was created to evoke a timeless and dramatic winter landscape portraying this historic region of early rail travel through The American West.

This is the bag you've been hearing about and spotted out on the tracks. Red Oxx began hand-building this duffel style Grip for locomotive railroad engineers here in Billings, Montana in 1992.

Together with a group of five rail engineers and conductors, Red Oxx created an American-made trainman bag that could survive the rough rail life.

Grantsdale was founded by Henry H. Grant whose family traced their ancestry to General Ulysses S. Grant. Henry Grant came to the Bitterroot Valley in 1884, to a 160-acre farm on Willow Creek, east of Corvallis.

H.H. Grant was very concerned with educational affairs and served on the Board of University Regents for Montana. During the years from 1891 through 1895, there was much discussion concerning the placement of the units of the University system. Grant wanted the State College at Grantsdale and offered to donate land for the college, but politics entered the picture and Montana State College was located at Bozeman, and Montana State University was placed in Missoula.

Trees and water hazards challenge you right from the start as you head out on Hole #1. Next, you've got two par 3 holes with substantial lakes that separate the tee from the green. Holes #4 through #9 play alongside two streams, crossing them continually.

The back nine begins with a promising birdie opportunity on Hole #10, but Hole #11 has several water hazards and a well-bunkered green. Holes #12, #13 & #14 are Scottish-style holes with tall grass in the rough and wide, long fairways. Holes #15 through #18 start by dropping 80 feet off the bench down into the Rock Creek valley. Hole #15 is everybody's favorite, a unique and fun-to-play "island green". A long par 5 plays deceptively uphill along the valley floor. Stopping halfway back up the bench is a short par 3, while Hole #18 finishes on top of the bench playing back toward the clubhouse.
