Nemacolin Pride #1

by Sarah Royer, Nemacolin Pride was created during Sarah Royer's time as the Artist in Residence at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. Inspired by the Pride events at Nemacolin, specifically The Dive and Drag Show. Royer created Nemacolin Pride by using water color to hand paint the Pride flag in what became the background of the piece, she then used black ink and a silk screen stencil to print an image of The Chateau directly on the Pride flag. Using watercolor combined with screen printing was an experimental process for Royer and was made possible by the artist pushing the boundaries of the medium during her time as Artist in Residence at Nemacolin., 11"x13.75"

by Dan Droz, "Summer Garden," a wall sculpture depicting the exuberant color of a garden in full bloom, integrates folds and reflection to call attention to the nuances of perception. Obvious are the bright colors and undulating planes. Harder to see, but perceived after a few moments of viewing, is the evanescent glow of the 'other side' created by the reflection of florescent paint on the reverse side., 23"x17"x3"

A Failed Attempt At Reason

by Chris Thompson, This piece represents one's attempt to balance the two selves inside of everyone; the head and the heart. The head reconciling with what the heart desires, often fabricating flimsy rationalization but is reason enough for the heart to justify its response to a stimulus. Reason enough for one could easily exist as folly for another. The head will validate the heart because the heart tempers the head. I attempted to illustrate this concept with the balance of circles on one another and on the pillars they lean against, but each are flawed and distressed within themselves. I chose to use mostly warm, gentle colors with a shock of blues to symbolize the erratic nature of both sides within the self., 14"x18"

Start Where You Are

by Erica Tamburo, Start Where You Are is the title piece of a series of work created to battle the things that we tell ourselves we "should" be. As I battle my own person physical and mental health issues it has become my motto for 2022. Some days I have to stop, take a deep breath, start where I am, and take one step. This piece reminds me that there is beauty along the way even while there is struggle. The image is an in-camera multiple-exposure photograph. I created wearable art out of this image so that the owner can carry the message with them, and be wrapped in a beautiful positive thought when they may need it the most., 55.5"x22"
