Mr. Joseph Henry Hutto

Joey Hutto moved to Tupelo in 1964 and went to Milam Jr. High where all of the 6th grade elementary students attended. He graduated high school in 1971 with those same classmates.

Joey attended Ole Miss, graduated with a Bachelor's degree as an Insurance Major.  He was a cheerleader and President of the Ole Miss Class of 1975.

He entered the world of insurance at IFM Insurance and did not like the business until he was elected City Alderman at age 24 (the youngest alderman ever).  His $375 salary from being an Alderman allowed him to marry the beauty from Tallahatchie County - Michelle Barnhill the same year.

While on the Board of Alderman, Joey was instrumental in changing the form of government for Tupelo to the current strong mayor form of government, changing department heads to be appointed instead of elected.  That cost him his re-election but allowed him to start his own insurance business, Hutto & Company, in 1980.

He added Buzzy Mize and David Carlisle to the team, and they built the company into a dominate firm in North Mississippi.  They sold the company in 1990 to Jackson-based Ross & Yerger Insurance.  Joey, Buzzy and David were part of the core group who bought Ross & Yerger Insurance in 2002.  It is now an employee-owned independent insurance agency having recently been named to the top 100 size insurance agencies in the nation in 3 separate publications.

Joey and Michelle, married for 44 years, have 3 wonderful sons.  Joseph Henry "Hank" Hutto, Jr., and twins John and Steele Hutto.  Hank and his wife Maddin live in Tupelo with their have 2 sons--Joseph "Henry" Hutto III, and Brooks Gardner Hutto. Steele and his wife Katie have beautiful twin girls - age 3 - Kathleen and Shelby.  Steele and his family live in Nashville with their favorite uncle John Hutto.

Joey learned early and stated, "Trust is the ultimate compliment."  In 1974, he read Zig Zigler and has always quoted Zig: "You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help enough other people get what they want."

Joey is very honored to be roasted and toasted to support Good Samaritan and the Antonne Tannehill Clinic. Dr. Antonne Tannehill was a very good friend to Joey and his family growing up.  He is grateful to have Robin McGraw, David Carlisle and John Wheeler as roasters for this event. Their common ground is they have nothing on Joey!

While Joey expects the event to be fun and entertaining , his goal is to raise money so that Good Samaritan Health Services can continue their mission to help those in need of healthcare in our area.
