Rebecca Birkin has four children, three degrees, two names she answers to (Rebecca or Becca but never Becky), one wonderful husband, and a beloved home nestled in the Wasatch Valley. She writes, paints, travels, and typically wishes she could do all three at the same time.
For purposes of this auction, she's much less interested in talking about her bio and more interested in telling you about the discovery process of this painting.
With war flooding the news and swamping her mind and heart, Becca set out to paint something in honor of the Ukrainian plight.
Art often opens up new things for us to discover. In this case, the first was the house that showed up in the corner of the painting.
A deeper discovery came after Becca learned of Water for Life's efforts to provide clean water for Ukraine. Originally, she chose her colors as a nod to the Ukraine flag. Yet now the truth practically waved from the canvas. All that blue stuff? It's water.
This is a simple painting, yet it represents the outcome we all desire for the Ukrainian people: home, hope, freedom from fear, and water flowing freely into safe havens.
