Originally from Pennsylvania, I grew up two blocks from the Susquehanna River and have felt the need to live close in proximity to water ever since. My understanding of our attraction to bodies of water was reinforced reading Dr. Wallace J. Nichols' book, Blue Mind, in which he discusses the neuroscience behind our connection to all things water. Living in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, I enjoy daily walks on the beach and absorbing all the sights, sounds and smells of the Pacific Ocean.

It's no secret that our beaches, our oceans, our landscape is at a constant war with pollution and the detrimental habits of humans. And although we may not see it, the homes (and those occupying) below sea level are being affected, with no chance of fighting back. "PLEASE DON'T FEED THE TURTLES!" beautifully reminds the viewer to consider those harmed by your footprint; using mirrored acrylic as the letters, the message evokes self-reflection as spectators see themselves in the art. Like a "remixed beach sign," the multi-layered artwork is painted with an assortment of tropical colors and sealed with deep gloss coats of epoxy resin.

An innovative painter, sculpture, writer, photographer, philanthropist, and filmmaker, he captured the imagination of people everywhere by completing over one hundred monumental marine life murals around the world from 1981-2008. The project, known as the Whaling Walls, remains one of the largest public arts projects in history and continues to be seen by an estimated one billion people each year.

Red plastic collected in the rivers, markets, and beaches of Bali. Anyone who has traveled to Bali has noticed their plastic problem. I spent a month in 2018 in Bali collecting used plastic bags. There is no recycling on Bali and extremely limited trash collection, so most of the waste ends up the in the rivers and then oceans. This coral piece consists of roughly 300 bags collected, washed, cut and sculpted into coral.
