Katelyn Hoag, an IPO Rising Star alum, will provide private violin or viola lessons for any age student. Please select 4 one-half hour lessons or two one hour lessons. Katelyn Hoag - bio
Katelyn Hoag is a viola performer and viola/violin teacher based in Birmingham, Alabama. Previously, she was a viola fellow with The Orchestra Now in New York, where she performed at Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center and Jazz at Lincoln Center. Katelyn was formerly Principal Violist of Owensboro Symphony Orchestra in Kentucky, where she made her solo debut performing "Bohemian Rhapsody for Solo Viola and Orchestra". She was also a member of Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and has performed with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Alabama Symphony Orchestra and the orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Katelyn has performed at Germany's Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and Japan's Pacific Music Festival and was a viola fellow at the Aspen Music Festival.
Katelyn earned her Master of Music and Performer Diploma in Viola Performance from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music and her Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance and Music Education from University of Michigan. Her primary teachers were Stephen Wyrczynski, Atar Arad and Yizhak Schotten.
Katelyn's mission as a teacher is for each of her students to become life-long music learners. She has taught beginner violin classes at Fairview Elementary School in Bloomington, Indiana and at the Ypsilanti Youth Orchestra in Ypsilanti, Michigan. She completed her student teaching in Saline, Michigan where she taught beginning strings, middle school strings and fiddle club. Katelyn has maintained a private viola/violin studio since 2013. She encourages her students to select their own repertoire so lessons are both educational and fun.
