For over 20 years Gillespie has pushed the boundaries of figurative painting with his bold, emotive work. His paintings have been featured in galleries across the country; Chicago, Los Angeles, Denver, Minneapolis and San Francisco. Gillespie's work consists of acrylic and mixed media paintings, focusing on figure study. His paintings explore the balance between realistic representation and abstraction, showcasing the beauty, strength and irony in various cultural interpretations of the human form.
The Bellona series is a collection of paintings and works on paper completed in 2021 and 2022. The pieces are inspired by Gillespie's interpretation of the influence of Roman mythology on Italian renaissance art, specifically Bellona, The Goddess of War.
