Artist Statement:

Gayleen Plakunov has dabbled in photography since her teens. After moving to a new home, photography became a greater passion as she discovered the wildlife and natural beauty that surrounded her. From the first visit by twin fawns on move-in day, to subsequent encounters with red foxes, white-tailed deer herds, coyotes, hawks and numerous songbirds, it soon became evident that she had a unique opportunity to capture the view of the natural world as she saw it. Wildlife, landscapes, birds and flowers are all the focus of her art. At DawnGreeter Designs, she offers her photos as prints, notecards, magnets and calendars. "My work is dedicated to the memory of my mother, who always had a wildlife story to share over Sunday morning breakfast. She ensured our childhood surrounded us with gardens, animals and wild things and taught us to love them all."

Artist Statement:

In a world where images have become a type of pollution, I am interested in creating a unique type of reality removed from the social and political unrest that is currently defining our daily existence. In this light, photography is not a form of escapism, but a poetic tool employed to ask more questions and to deepen the Mystery. I am interested in how the subconscious becomes visible through our narratives, and how art could be a positive force in a world whose humanistic values are constantly under siege. I have always believed in parallel universes. I hope that my images could point to the hidden portals between them.

This photo was taken at Kent Falls during my trip to Connecticut in April from South Korea. There weren't many flowers in bloom yet in the beginning of the month, so I enjoyed taking photos of waterfalls. Hopefully through this photograph, you can practically feel the droplets of water.

This photo was taken at Southford Falls during my trip to Connecticut in April from South Korea. There weren't many flowers in bloom yet in the beginning of the month, so I enjoyed taking photos of waterfalls. The waterfall was roaring because of a recent rainfall we had.

I'm a casual photographer, always interested in capturing the sights my wife and I come across during our travels. In this photo, I like the juxtaposition of the large-looking pebbles in the foreground and the small-looking crashing wave in the background. Adding this to the stillness of the in-focus bubbles and the movement of the blurry splash, the viewer gets unexpected perspectives of magnitude as well as differing states of calm and action.

In addition to painting, Linda has been involved with photography since before attending kindergarten, when she received her first camera. She enjoys capturing meaningful moments, and the juxtaposition of the visual and emotional aspects of a scene or object. In "Wistful", the beauty of the wilted rose is not any less, simply because its longed-for, younger days are past. The second piece, "Farmstand Harvest" reflects richness and abundance in the season of fading light.
