Katherine Fraser has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the United States. She is a graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and of the University of Pennsylvania. As a student she received the Thomas Eakins Painting prize, the Cecelia Beaux Portrait prize, and the William Emlen Cresson Memorial Travel Award, among others. Since graduating in 2002, she has received awards including the Lucy Glick Award and the Victor Klein Family Award. Her work has been published in Studio Visit Magazine, Philadelphia Weekly, Die Blumen die Frauen, The Fertile Source, New American Paintings, The Southern Review, the Best of American Oil Painting, and more. Her work may be found in many permanent and private collections nationally and abroad. A sister piece to "Until they grow loud..." and inspired by conversations with Paul Romano (@workhardened) , this piece focuses on the positive...love, support, trust, balance. Finding these things in ourselves and others, especially during hard times such as these, becomes so important. I'm so many ways we are not two, and not one.

"Fire"- Moonstone Art

Fire is hot, wild, unpredictable, and energetic. It can be creative in helping us to cook food or build tools, or it can be destructive, like a devastating bushfire or house fire. Fire is symbolic of passion, energy, & enthusiasm. The element of fire is represented by the yang wood dragon, surrounded by the warm glow of decorative lanterns. A selected verse from Robert Louis Stevenson's "Autumn Fires" is paired with the fiery illustrations.

Every Moon group helped in creating each piece of art. They are representative of the curriculum and capture the spirit of the elements- Earth, Air, Fire and Water. Each piece is multimedia- using printmaking techniques like, mono-printing, as well as painting, colored pencils, markers, and glue.

"Air"- Moonstone Art

Air is intangible and unseen, but also in constant movement. Air can be still and mostly unnoticed, to becoming a breeze or a fierce wind. It is powerful yet refreshing and cleansing. Symbolically, the air element relates to knowledge, action, power, and change. It is energy that can lead by force and power, even though it remains unseen. The aurora borealis sparkles across the peaks of mountains as windmills cycle new energy to us. A selected verse from Langston Hughes' "Dreams" floats across the artwork.

"Earth"- Moonstone Art

Earth is tactile and tangible. It creates the foundation from which the planet can grow and develop, and it supports and nurtures the plants and trees. Earth is grounded, stable, supportive and fertile. It is an element that is receptive - it takes in nutrients and sunrays and then uses this energy to sustain the life that grows out of it. This mixed media piece explores the Earth through the colors and animals that inhabit it. A selected verse from Robert Frost's "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" is paired with the grounding energy of this Earth inspired artwork.

"Water"- Moonstone Art

Water is fluid, agile and 'in flow' but it's also very powerful and formative. It can be soft and gentle, like waves lapping against the sandy shore, or it can be powerful and even forceful, like a raging river. The element of water is symbolic of fluidity, feelings and emotions, intuition, relationships, healing, and cleansing. It is an element that is receptive, adaptable, purifying and flowing. Under the water, creatures lurk, waiting for us to discover them- some familiar and some strange. This artwork flows together with words from the song "If I Were A Fish" gliding across the surface.
