Tom Coyne Biography:

Tom Coyne is the author of the novel A Gentleman's Game, which was named one of the best 25 sports books of all time by The Philadelphia Daily News. He wrote the film adaptation of the novel, which starred Gary Sinise, Philip Baker Hall, Dylan Baker, and Mason Gamble. His second book, Paper Tiger: An Obsessed Golfer's Quest to Play with the Pros was released June 2006, and was an editor's pick in Esquire Magazine and USA Today, and a summer reading selection in The New York Times. His third book, A Course Called Ireland: A Long Walk in Search of a Country, a Pint, and the Next Tee, was published by Gotham Books in February, 2009, and it chronicles his quest to walk and golf the whole of Ireland. The book was a New York Times, American Booksellers Association, and Barnes & Noble bestseller, and won a silver medal from the Society of American Travel Writers in the category of Best Travel Book of the Year.

His anticipated follow-up to A Course Called Ireland was released by Simon & Schuster in 2018: A Course Called Scotland was an instant New York Times bestseller, and chronicles Tom's quest to play every links course in Scotland, searching the highlands for the secret to golf and a tee time in the oldest championship in sports.

Tom is a regular contributor to The Golfer's Journal, and has written for Golf Magazine, Golfweek, Sports Illustrated, The New York Times, and numerous other publications. Six volunteers will join Jon and Loretta Runyan to participate in our Served with Love program, to prep and serve meals for over 200 individuals who are staying with us while their children receive life-saving care.

Volunteer date would be on a mutually agreed upon date between RMHC Philly, Jon and Loretta Runyan, and the winner.

Participation Requirements:

• Groups will work under the direct supervision of our Food Service team.
• Groups must include no fewer than 6 and no more than 8 volunteers.
• Volunteers must be 16 years or older to work in the commercial kitchen.
• At least 4 volunteers should plan to arrive by 3 pm.
• All volunteers must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination and a government-issued ID, and must be free from any symptoms of illness for at least 72 hours before their arrival.
• Volunteers must wear a CDC-approved mask at all times except when eating/drinking.

Jon Runyan Biography:

Jon Runyan is an American athlete (former Philadelphia Eagle) and politician who was the U.S. Representative for New Jersey's 3rd congressional district from 2011 to 2015. Before entering politics, he was an American football offensive tackle in the National Football League, where he played for 14 seasons. Jon holds 5th on the list of most consecutive starts in the NFL. He started in 193 games during his NFL career and 144 of these starts are with the Philadelphia Eagles. He was also a participant in the 2003 Pro Bowl following the 2002 NFL season.

Jon was drafted by the Houston Oilers in the fourth round of the 1996 NFL Draft and later played for the Philadelphia Eagles and San Diego Chargers. Runyan was the last active NFL player to have played for the Oilers. He played college football at Michigan where he was a 1995 All-Big Ten Conference selection. In high school, he had been an All-State (Michigan) selection in basketball and two-time state champion shot putter. He retired at the end of the 2009 NFL season and launched his campaign for Congress against incumbent freshman Democrat John Adler, winning the general election on November 2, 2010.

Beginning in 2016, Runyan became the Vice President of the Policy and Rules Administration for the NFL.
Loretta Runyan Biography:

Loretta Runyan is the wife of former NFL player Jon Runyan. She has 3 children, Jon Runyan Jr., Bella, and Alyssa.

Loretta served as a police officer in Houston, TX for 11 years and shined at the White House as a Congressional wife while Jon served 2 years as a member of Congress.

Chef Angelo Lutz Biography:

Angelo Lutz said it best when he took the witness stand in his own defense during a racketeering trial back in the summer of 2001. "I'm a cook, not a crook," he said. While the jury and the judge thought otherwise, Angelo is now back in South Philadelphia embarking on a new career and putting that other business behind him. Someone once said the secret to life is to figure out what it is that you love to do and then find a way to get paid to do it. Angelo Jenaro Lutz loves two things - cooking and talking. Both come naturally. He learned his way around the kitchen from watching and listening as his mother and grandmother prepared Italian meals while he was growing up. The connection to food was familial. His maternal grandfather, Charles P. Giunta, was the co-founder of Giunta Brothers which imported Italian food products to Philadelphia. Charles Giunta also patented one of the first noodle cutting - pasta making - machines. His gift of gab, like his ability in the kitchen, is also instinctual. A street corner raconteur, Angelo knows how to tell a story and loves being center stage.

Born and raised in the heart of South Philadelphia, Lutz is a graduate of St. Monica's grammar school and St. John Neumann high school. While he toyed with the idea of college - he was accepted at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and took some classes at Temple University - the lure of casino gambling led him to Atlantic City.

In the early days of the casino gambling boom on the Boardwalk he worked as a dealer at Playboy, Trump's Castle and the Sands. He later worked in the carpet installing business and as a caterer where his gigs included serving breakfast and lunch daily to the National Board of Medical Examiners in Philadelphia. He was also active with the Philadelphia Mummers, doing a star turn as the "Golden Buddha" in one of the New Year's Day parades. Convicted of gambling and extortion and sentenced to nearly nine years in jail, Angelo doesn't try to sugarcoat his past. While he might disagree with the extortion charge, he readily admits that he was into the bookmaking scene. In fact, government witnesses at his trial and his judge at sentencing said that Angelo knew more about how to run a sports betting operation than most of his co-defendants who clearly outranked him within the organization and whose crimes were more serious. He spent more than seven years as a "guest" of the federal government. But all of that is prologue. Now he's doing what he loves. An avid fan of the Food Network, he is constantly taking ideas about how to prepare food, adding a twist or a spin, throwing in some unexpected ingredient and coming up with a new dish. Most days you can find him walking South Philadelphia's Italian market, talking with the guys who run DiBruno Brothers cheese shop or Giordano's produce store, looking for the freshest ingredients and imagining how to turn them into an unforgettable dining experience. Everything that Angelo Jenaro Lutz has learned, everything that he has done, has become part of his personal recipe for life. And out of that he's created Cooking with The Kitchen Consigliere and The Kitchen Consigliere Cafe.

The Impact of Adopt A Room:

In 2019, we opened the Jill and Alan B. Miller Tower and began welcoming families into our new rooms. We now have more than twice as many rooms as we did before the expansion, so your support is more critical than ever. By partnering with our Adopt A Room program, you are doing more than making sure families have a place to sleep each night-as important as that is. You are making it easier for children to get the treatment they need and have their families close by their side, every step of the way. You are eliminating many of the financial challenges that come with traveling long distances for medical care, so that parents can focus on their child's treatment. You are also providing parents with the support and rest they need to be there for their seriously ill children and their siblings.
Last year, we had more than 2,137 family stays, with families traveling from 47 states and 29 countries. Families from Pennsylvania accounted for 32% of all stays and
19% came from New Jersey. While the average length of stay was 12 days, many stayed longer, with 365 nights being the longest length of stay.
Thanks to generous donors like you, 99% of these families believe that because of the House, they were better able to maintain their well-being while their children received care, and 98% believe that staying at the House helped to reduce their stress levels. Finally, 96% feel that the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House provided them with support that they would not otherwise have received during their children's care.

Each August, over two hundred campers pack their bags and head to Ronald McDonald Camp. Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains, Ronald McDonald Camp looks like a traditional summer camp, but as anyone who has been there knows, it is so much more. Camp is a place where kids with cancer, and their siblings, can enjoy just being kids. It's a week of fun and friendship, and freedom from being different. It's a chance to experience new activities and acquire new skills in a supportive, nurturing environment. It's a time when kids can talk openly about cancer and everybody else understands. Camp welcomes children ages 7 to 17 who are currently undergoing treatment or who have been treated for cancer. One sibling per camper also has the opportunity to attend. An Adopt A Cabin partnership donation of $2,500 allows you to support a cabin at Ronald McDonald Camp. Meet Kyle & Kaleb Zabinsky:

In the summer of 2015, the Zabinsky family stayed at the house for nearly 4 months, far away from their home in Virginia. The family temporarily relocated to Philly after Kaleb's CPAM diagnosis in utero and an unexpected premature delivery at 29 weeks. The House quickly became a haven for not only their parents, but also their grandmothers who assisted weekly with their care, and even Kyle who graduated 40 days earlier from the NICU than Kaleb. The Zabinskys continue to stay at the House for annual checkups at CHOP.
