A trio of magnums from benchmark Beaujolais producer Julien Sunier highlighting 3 of the most famous sites in Beaujolais - Fleurie, Régnié, and Morgon. Dijon born surfer turned Cru Beaujolais, natural wine champion, Julien has extensive experience working for notable organic and biodynamic estates in Burgundy, New Zealand, California, and 2018 marks his 10th year farming his own organic vineyards. Vintage in and vintage out his wines are deft, clean, and clearly express site with a captivating transparency.

Floraison Selections is a grower focussed wine importer and distributor featuring small scale, independent growers who work with minimal intervention and farm organically and biodynamically. Floraison Selections is a woman owned and run company based in Emeryville, CA and a long-time supporter of Kala.

St. George Spirits - Ruthless

WHISKEY RELEASE NEWS: RUTHLESS is a long-in-the-works collaboration with St. George Spirits and Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.

Sierra Nevada has brewed much of the wash for St. George Single Malt Whiskey since the late 1990s. In honor of the close relationship, the two makers got together to explore what it would be like to distill one of Sierra Nevada's most beloved beers: Ruthless Rye IPA.

Distilled and laid down in new American oak and used French oak port casks back in 2013, Ruthless also incorporates some of the very first barrel of Single Malt Whiskey that was brewed for us by Sierra Nevada back in 1997 and aged in used bourbon cask.

This was offered for sale for one Saturday only in December at the distillery. It is not available anywhere for sale.

THE SPIRIT: "A California take on the Japanese spin on Scotch whisky." So says master distiller Lance Winters of this unique and inspired spirit, which was created with Japanese-style whiskey highballs in mind (hence the name Baller).

THE EXPERIENCE: Crisp and dry, with a touch of malt sweetness. The smoky finish lingers and builds with each sip. In addition to using in Japanese-style whiskey highballs, we also recommend Baller in a Boulevardier, or in place of Scotch whisky in a Bobby Burns or Rob Roy.

ABOUT THE LABEL: Distiller Lance Winters did the art direction for the label, which re-imagines the legend of St. George as a samurai. The original watercolor on the front label is by Oakland artist and Kala Board Member Sylvia Solochek Walters, done to emulate woodcut. The calligraphy was done by Eri Takase of Takase Studios
