Mahari Chabwera is an artist, curator, writer, and arts facilitator living and working between Maryland and Virginia. She received her BFA in painting and printmaking from VCU in 2017, and was awarded the VMFA Professional Fellowship in 2019. In 2020, she received the Visual Arts Center Emerging artist award, before moving home to Newport news, VA to become the Contemporary Arts Network's inaugural First Pateron Artist in residence. Since then she has gone on to create and facilitate her own artist residency. Studio House, in partnership with the CAN in Baltimore. Mahari studies practices of liberation and Black Women's wisdom traditions to ground her work and actions in the world.
