This elegant trio of functional vases was created by Maxwell Mustardo, former Resident Artist at the Sonoma Community Center. The vases can be filled with flowers or be displayed on their own. The graphite-matte glaze is seductive and mysterious with a texture that is developed during the firing process, promoting natural crystal growth similar to what is found in geologic specimens. This functional ceramic rain stick has a lovely, soft sound. It is beautiful to look at and fun to play with! Sculpted from black clay with a cloud and rain motif added to the surface by Genevive Haven, a long-time Studio Member.
Rain sticks were used by ancient cultures in spiritual ceremonies to pray for rain and have become popular musical instruments and icons today. Maybe it will even help with the drought. The rain stick is approximately 2" x 2" x 24" long. Use it to ask for rain, as a musical instrument or as a wonderful conversation piece.
