Small improv quilted wall hanging with hand embroidery. I'm calling it an etude because in music that would be a short piece to practice a technique. For this piece I wanted to test the idea of making a rainbow quilt that didn't feel like a traditional rainbow but all the colors were represented. I was also interested in how embroidery could connect the pieces and add a 3-D element. Pocketed dowel rod for hanging on back.

Informed by the iconic pride flag, but emerging. This piece is a little messy but cozy, full of texture and color, with mistakes but also moments where surprises turned out better than planned. On the wall I hope it will read homey and welcoming.

As an ally and mom to a lovely daughter who identifies as LGBTQ+ I really appreciate GSAFE's presence in schools. What a great organization! I have been wanting to try a project like this for a while, so this was a great opportunity to commit and bust out the yarn.
