Jimmy Chin Autographed Photo

Jimmy Chin wears many hats-climber, skier, Oscar winning filmmaker-but he is perhaps best known for his stunning photography.

His achievements include climbing and skiing Mount Everest from the summit, making first ascents of big walls and alpine towers in the Karakoram and Himalayas, and crossing the Chang Tang Plateau in north-western Tibet on foot.

Both in front of and behind the camera, he has been featured in numerous publications, including National Geographic, Outside, and Men's Journals. He directed, along with his wife Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, the award winning documentary Free Solo.

This striking black and white photo captures Charakusa Valley, located deep in the Karakoram of Pakistan. It was taken in 2001, and is autographed by Jimmy Chin.

"After the Storm" is one of Washburn's most iconic photos. The day he captured this incredible image he was flying to photograph the Matterhorn on a bright sunny morning after a fresh snowfall. A perfect day! While en route they flew over this group of climbers, he instructed his pilot to turn around so he could take this marvelous series of a group climbing the Doldenhorn.

A typical method for Brad's photo trips was to remove an airplane door and to secure his camera and himself to the plane; exceptionally warm clothing was critical, especially in wintry conditions. He's also a storied mountaineer having put up many first ascents of major Alaskan peaks, often with his wife Barbara. His legacy lives on in the AAC's Bradford Washburn American Mountaineering Museum and in his photos.

About Hillary: Hillary was a New Zealand mountaineer, explorer, and philanthropist. As part of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition he reached the South Pole overland in 1958. He subsequently reached the North Pole, making him the first person to reach both poles and summit Everest. Time named him one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century. Ama Dablam is a mountain in the eastern Himalayan range of Nepal. The main peak is 6,812 meters (22,349 ft), the lower western peak is 6,170 meters (20,243 ft). Ama Dablam means "Mother's necklace"; the long ridges on each side like the arms of a mother (ama) protecting her child, and the hanging glacier thought of as the dablam, the traditional double-pendant containing pictures of the gods, worn by Sherpa women.

Patrick Dunn's Biography (Taken from Scarpa's AMI): "When I was 18, on a trip to visit my brother in New Hampshire, I climbed at a gym for the first time and I instantly fell in love. I climbed on and off for years but as a gay man there was a sense of not belonging in the climbing community that kept me from really diving in. Then, in 2011 I moved to Santa Cruz, CA and it was there that I finally found a community that I felt welcome in. I spent those initial formative years cutting my teeth at Shuteye Ridge, Yosemite and Red Rock, NV. Early on I developed a deep love of traditional climbing and had amazing partners that showed me the wonder of long multi-pitch and alpine climbing. The full value of pushing into the mountains and spending hours on the side of a massive piece of stone solidified my obsession and reverence for the sport. In 2016 I moved to Bend, OR with hopes of becoming a climbing guide at Smith Rock. In 2019 I received my SPI and have been guiding ever since. This year I launched OUT in the Wild, a guide company for the LGBTQ+ community. Climbing has not only taken me to amazing places but it has expanded my relationship with myself, teaching me endless lessons of resilience and self acceptance. To me rock climbing is not always about the send or achieving the goal, but about the process and journey along the way. I hope to share my experience and perspectives with folx like me who might not have felt welcome and create a more inclusive climbing community."

About Chris Bonington: After serving three years in North Germany, he spent two years at the Army Outward Bound School as a mountaineering instructor. Bonington was part of the party that made the first British ascent of the South West Pillar (aka Bonatti Pillar) of the Aiguille du Dru in 1958, and the first ascent of the Central Pillar of Freney on the south side of Mont Blanc in 1961 with Don Whillans, Ian Clough and Jan Dlugosz (Poland). In 1960 he was part of the successful joint British-Indian-Nepalese forces expedition to Annapurna II. On leaving the British Army he became a professional mountaineer and explorer. In 1966 he was given his first assignment by The Daily Telegraph Magazine to cover other expeditions, including climbing Sangay in Ecuador and hunting caribou with Inuit on Baffin Island. In 1968 he accompanied Captain John Blashford-Snell and his British Army team in the attempt to make the first-ever descent of the Blue Nile. His career has included nineteen expeditions to the Himalayas, including four to Mount Everest.

About Reinhold Messner: Messner is an Italian mountaineer, explorer, and author from South Tyrol. He made the first solo ascent of Mount Everest and, along with Peter Habeler, the first ascent of Everest without supplemental oxygen. He was the first climber to ascend all fourteen peaks over 8,000 metres (26,000 ft) above sea level. Messner was the first to cross Antarctica and Greenland with neither snowmobiles nor dog sleds. He also crossed the Gobi Desert alone. Messner has published more than 80 books about his experiences as a climber and explorer. In 2018, he received jointly with Krzysztof Wielicki the Princess of Asturias Award in the category of Sports.

Pioneer Ridge Limited Edition Print - Framed 22"

About Tom Hornbein: Tom received his MD in 1956 from Washington University School of Medicine and worked as an anesthesiologist. He also studied human physiological limits and performance at high altitude. He was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington from 1978 to 1993. His life was a link of medicine and mountaineering. Hornbein was an early area climber of Boulder, Colorado in the Flatirons. Hornbein and his partners Willi Unsoeld and Dick Emerson attempted to climb Mount Everest in 1963 as part of the American Everest Expedition. Jim Whittaker and Nawang Gombu Sherpa from this expedition had summitted on May 1, 1963. Hornbein, Unsoeld, and Emerson were the first to attempt an ascent of the daunting West Ridge. Previously, ascents of the mountain had been made only via the South Col and Southeast Ridge or the North Col and Northeast Ridge. Their plan was to climb up the West Ridge and down the Southeast Ridge/South Col route. This would make theirs the first traverse of an 8000-meter peak. Hornbein named the Hornbein Couloir, a steep gully which he and Unsoeld climbed in the uppermost part of the north wall. In his book Into Thin Air, Jon Krakauer writes that "Hornbein's and Unsoeld's ascent was--and continues to be--deservedly hailed as one of the great feats in the annals of mountaineering."

About Robbins: Royal Robbins (February 3, 1935 - March 14, 2017) was one of the pioneers of American rock climbing. After learning to climb at Tahquitz Rock, he went on to make first ascents of many big wall routes in Yosemite. As an early proponent of boltless, pitonless clean climbing, he, along with Yvon Chouinard, was instrumental in changing the climbing culture of the late 1960s and early 1970s by encouraging the use and preservation of the natural features of the rock. He went on to become a well-known kayaker.

About Kor: Layton Kor (June 11, 1938 - April 21, 2013) was an American rock climber active in the 1960s, whose first ascents and drive for climbing are well known in the climbing world. His routes included many climbs in Eldorado Canyon, near Boulder, Colorado, The Diamond on Longs Peak, towers in the desert southwest, and Yosemite National Park, among other locations. Notable among his first ascents is the Kor-Ingalls Route on Castleton Tower and The Finger of Fate Route up the Fisher Towers' Titan; both routes are recognized in the historic climbing text Fifty Classic Climbs of North America. Kor also authored the book Beyond the Vertical. Kor received the 2009 American Alpine Club's Robert & Miriam Underhill Award for outstanding climbing achievement.

About Bridwell: Jim Bridwell (July 29, 1944 - February 16, 2018) was an American rock climber and mountaineer, active since 1965, especially in Yosemite Valley, but also in Patagonia and Alaska. He was noted for pushing the standards of both free climbing and big-wall climbing, and later alpine climbing. He wrote numerous articles on climbing for leading sport publications. He was an apprentice to Royal Robbins and Warren Harding (climber). He was the unofficial leader of the Stonemasters. Bridwell is credited with over 100 First Ascents in Yosemite Valley, in addition to conducting the first one-day ascent of The Nose of El Capitan on May 26, 1975 with John Long and Billy Westbay. He founded Yosemite National Park's Search and Rescue Team (YOSAR), and spearheaded many rescues that became textbook for search-and-rescue operations. He was a leading force in the changing techniques of climbing and an innovator/inventor of widely used and copied climbing gear, including copperheads and bird beaks. Jim resided in Palm Desert, California, USA, until his death on February 16, 2018.
