FAQ

1. Why are we conducting this campaign?

In response to the challenges facing Long Island's Catholic elementary schools, the Marianists and the DOE partnered with Alvarez & Marsal, a global professional services firm, to conduct a thorough analysis of each school. As part of their work, A&M:

  • Diagnosed each school's challenges and funding needs
  • Received school and parish input
  • Developed a five-year financial model based on realistic assumptions of each school's long-term sustainability

As a result, decisions were made over the last two years which resulted in the closing of seven schools and the merger of two other schools into a new MSI pilot school. While these decisions were difficult, they were made to ensure that Catholic education on Long Island remains viable and sustainable.

The financial model also informed a thoughtful strategic planning process at all schools, gave school pastors and principals the financial insights needed to make critical decisions, and informed MSI's key funding priorities.
