$240This modern qaspeq is size L/XL and was made by Davina Carl (Yup'ik). Davina is originally from Qipneq (Kipnuk), AK, but currently resides in Anchorage. Her inspiration for sewing modern qaspeqs stems from her grandmother, Tukurngailnguq, of Kipnuk, who was an exceptional sewer. "You will never learn without trying," is a motto Tuk' often reiterated to her grandchildren, and is inscribed in Davina's heart. Her gratitude, gift of sewing, and admiration for her Yup'ik culture is significantly stronger than before, because she knows these are the three components that holds her unity with her culture and the world outside. Salmonberry Flower Pendant
$185This Salmonberry flower inspired pendant is beaded on smoked moosehide and edged with size 15 - 24k gold plated beads and hangs from a 20" 18k gold plated chain. The flower was created with a mix of seed, Charlotte and glass beads. Ashton Ekada (Koyukon Athabascan), is from Nulato but currently lives in Wasilla, AK. She grew up in Nulato watching her grandma and other elder relatives sew and bead. It naturally became part of her identity. Her mom also beads and was Ashton's biggest motivator to start beading again. Ashton has been beading since she was 10 years old and she continues to bead and sew today as a way to practice her culture daily and pass this craft to her girls. Large Beaded Hoop Earrings

"Bertha & the Space Needle"

In addition to her contemporary art practice, Bremner is committed to the revitalization of the Tlingit language and creating works for traditional and ceremonial use. Beaded Bracelet & Earring Set

The bracelet features seal skin that was harvested on Kodiak. Jessica uses jewelry to build connections with her Sugpiaq homeland (Pilot Point), for herself and others. Based in Renton, WA, she admires the strength and resilient spirit of her Alutiiq Ancestors and honors these qualities with the materials and designs she incorporates into her jewelry, while using unique shapes and products that reflect her journey as an artist. Her inspiration and love of earrings came from her grandmother, Mae Hansen/Lange. She never left the house without a pair on. She's new to Ravenstail and Chilkat weaving and has been taking classes with Lily Hope this past year.

Raven Chooses Her Mask

Her grandmothers are Sugpiaq and Tlingit and her grandfathers were Danish and German immigrants. She has lived on or by the sea her whole life, as a fisherman with her parents and later on her own vessels. Her and her husband have raised their 3 children in Cordova, and it is their forever home. She has always been drawn to art, but has a limited formal education in it. She has taken several workshops to learn materials, and attended some elective classes in college.
