Metallic twist ties
Mi-Kyoung Lee
This piece is inspired by blooming flowers. Through the pandemic natural images, especially flowers, have been an important element to comfort my emotions. This piece is hand constructed knots with twist ties.
Mi-Kyoung Lee is a fiber artist currently based in Philadelphia. Her work focuses on the ritual and repetitive process of art making and the relationship between tool and material, image and content. Her work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions at the Arizona Art Museum, Cranbrook Museum of Art, Reading Public Museum, Painted Bride Art Center, Espace de Tisserands, and Busan Metropolitan Museum in Korea. She was included in the 10th International Lausanne Beijing Fiber Art Biennale and 8th Beijing International Visual Art Biennale among others. In 2021, her work was included in the True Grit: Art & Philly Now exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Since 2005, Lee has collaborated with the International Opera Theater as the artistic director, costume, and set designer. She is currently an educator at University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

Isaiah Zagar
Isaiah Zagar is an award-winning mosaic mural artist whose work can be found on more than 200 public walls throughout the city of Philadelphia and around the world. Zagar's artwork is heavily influenced by his travels and the personal connections he has made with international folk and visionary artists.
Zagar's work is included in the permanent collections of numerous art institutions, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and has been featured in solo exhibitions throughout the Philadelphia area. He has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Pew Charitable Trusts.
Eye's Gallery
Sparked by Julia and Isaiah Zagar's love for Latin American folk art, Eye's Gallery has expanded into three floors of unique handpicked items from around the world. Isaiah and Julia, artists and urban pioneers, moved into a sparsely populated area of Philadelphia known then as Lower South Street, after serving in the Peace Corps as craft developers to the Ayamara and Inca people of the Andes mountains in Peru.
Tours of the interior and exterior of Grotta House will be limited to six total guests. Each registrant will receive a copy of The Grotta Home by Richard Meier: A Marriage of Architecture and Craft signed by Lou Grotta.

Grotta House
The Grotta House was built during the latter part of the 1980s and sits amid seven acres of rural landscape in Harding Township, New Jersey.
By renowned architect Richard Meier, the house was geometrically designed to harmonize with its natural surroundings and embrace the nearby forest and slope terrain to anchor its base and create fluidity throughout its interior and exterior spaces.
The Grotta House embraces one of the most important collections of contemporary crafts and includes furniture by the Andersons, Thomas Hucker, and Wendell Castle. Throughout the collection are textiles by John McQueen, Lenore Tawney, Shiela Hicks, ceramics by Wayne Higby, Peter Voulkos, William Wyman and other significant works by Wendy Ramshaw, Laurie Hall, Norma Minkowitz, and Dorothy Gill Barnes.

Anna Boothe
Anna Boothe is a glass sculptor with 35 plus years of experience whose work is cast from lead crystal using the pate de verre glass casting technique. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Corning Museum of Glass, Racine Art Museum, and Tacoma Museum of Art, and has been shown internationally. In the recent past she's exhibited at Philadelphia's International Airport, the Philadelphia Art Alliance, Fuller Craft Museum, Albuquerque Museum of Art, Paul Robeson Center for the Arts, and in Vicenza, Italy with a major collaborative work scheduled for an upcoming exhibition at the Racine Art Museum. Numerous galleries throughout the United States represent her work.
Notably as a first-time exhibitor, she won Excellence in Glass and Best Display awards at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, American Craft Council (Baltimore) and Smithsonian Craft Shows. In 2021, her flacon Laurel Berry was awarded 1st Prize by the International Perfume Bottle Collectors' Association.
Anna holds degrees in Sculpture from Rhode Island School of Design and in Glass from Tyler School of Art where she taught for 16 years, after which she was invited to develop and chair Salem Community College's Glass Art Program in New Jersey. She is a past President of the Glass Art Society and former Director of Glass at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia. Currently, as a full-time artist, she creates her work and maintains her business Pate de Verity from her studio outside of Philadelphia.

Jolie Ngo
Jolie Ngo (b. 1996) is a ceramic artist who expands the potential of the vessel form by creating vibrant, cyborgian objects that acknowledge past ceramic traditions while smiling towards the future. In her own words: I want to show the ceramic vessel as a future-form that can still hold memories of the past.
Born and raised in and outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jolie Ngo holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. She lives and works in Western New York, where she is currently an MFA candidate at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University.
In her practice, Ngo utilizes new technologies, working primarily with a ceramic 3D printer and rapid prototyping. With these tools, she subverts the narrative around crafting objects with one's own hands to create work that she labels "The New Handmade".

Judith Schaechter
Judith Schaechter has lived and worked in Philadelphia since graduating in 1983 with a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design Glass Program.
She has exhibited widely, including in New York, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia, The Hague, and Vaxjo, Sweden.
She is the recipient of many grants, including the Guggenheim Fellowship, two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships in Crafts, The Louis Comfort Tiffany Award, The Joan Mitchell Award, two Pennsylvania Council on the Arts awards, The Pew Fellowship in the Arts and a Leeway Foundation grant.
Her work is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Hermitage in Russia, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Corning Museum of Glass, The Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution, and numerous other public and private collections.
Judith's work was included in the 2002 Whitney Biennial, a collateral exhibition of the Venice Biennale in 2012, and she is a 2008 USA Artists Rockefeller Fellow. In 2013, Judith was inducted to the American Craft Council College of Fellows.

Idol Light
Idol Light, located in Philadelphia, PA, and founded by Machele Nettles, showcases the intangible by packaging light.
Machele obtained a BSID in Philadelphia where she enjoyed a very conceptual and environmentally driven program. Her work often deals with perception and the re-contextualization of objects. Machele is very interested in human behavior and innovation, and likes to design things that are more about the reaction to the product than the product itself.
The goal of Idol Light is to inspire, to be a catalyst for reflection and connection, and to create small moments of joy. By exposing the inner-workings of precision instruments and breaking up white light, Idol Light celebrates science and reminds us of the abundance of color around us. By wearing Idol Light, you become a walking art installation.

Roberta Massuch
Roberta Massuch lives and works in Philadelphia where she is a Resident Artist at The Clay Studio, and works as the studio technician and faculty at The Community College of Philadelphia. Originally from Minneapolis, MN, she received her BFA from Northern Illinois University in 2005 and her MFA from Louisiana State University in 2013. Past residencies include Worcester Center for Craft, Northern Clay Center, and Tyler School of Art. She was awarded a 2015 Independence Foundation Visual Arts Fellowship, which funded her participation in an 8 week Arquetopia Special Ceramics Artist Residency (2016) at the Arquetopia Foundation for Development, in Puebla, Mexico.
Influenced heavily by the architecture of her surroundings, Roberta Massuch creates functional pottery, sculptural vessels, and installations with evident reflection on construction techniques and the presence of hand.

Wharton Esherick
Wharton Esherick (1887 - 1970) was an internationally significant figure in the landscape of art history and American modern design. As a sculptor, Esherick worked primarily in wood and extended his unique forms to furniture, furnishings, interiors, buildings, and more. His motto, "If it isn't fun, it isn't worth doing," is evident in the joyful expression of his work. Now recognized as a leader of the Studio Furniture Movement, Esherick saw himself as an artist, not a craftsman, and his concern was with form, not technique. He pursued his artistic vision in forms that might turn to furniture or other sculptural furnishings. More importantly, these were but one aspect of his art complemented by the paintings, prints, drawings, poetry, and sculpture he also created.

Claudia Mills
My first priority is to create a well-designed piece, a functioning floor covering that is both beautiful and durable.
In college, after exploring every course the art department offered, I landed in the weaving studio. I found weaving's combination of mathematical rigor and tactile diversity irresistible. Building on my childhood fascination with designing clothes using novelty fabrics, I began weaving with large bright prints, lurex, ripstop nylon and plaids. This exploration led to my first rag rugs in 1985.
I have now been weaving rugs for over three decades, adapting the traditional rag rug craft to my own contemporary aesthetic. As a designer I try to strike a balance between color and textural effects. Inspiration comes in many forms but foremost is the fabric itself.

Bob Ingram
My life as a maker has taken me on a long and varied path filled with wondrous discoveries. For decades I was a designer/maker of fine furniture. Such work was exhibited widely, and received many awards. In the mid 1980s, I stepped away from the studio to continue my studies, concentrating on Industrial Design in the graduate department of Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY.
These studies were then followed up with a Designer-in-Residence at the Tasmanian Institute of Technology in Australia. It was during this time that I made a commitment to "one day turn my attention to making sculpture full time." That day came about 20 years later plunging me into the wacky world of art leaving the comfy product gig in the rearview mirror.
Most of my works use found objects as well as the addition of various tooled pieces of wood, metal, glass, plastics, and any other material I can wrap my hands around. These pieces have been warmly received and supported by my fellow artists because of their whimsy, humor, and quite possibly the shared understanding that there is no university tenure track bound art professorship pulling out of port here.

My training and specialties are in textile and apparel design, illustration, and costume history. My botanical and insect inspired collection is linoleum block printed. I design, illustrate and painstakingly hand-carve each linoleum block. Each garment section is printed before construction. I layer prints and colors to get the desired effect, carefully considering all the garment design details before printing. I translate shapes and details from the past, adding a contemporary twist. I strive to create a unique, wearable, and beautifully constructed garment with timeless design, historical references, and impeccable craftsmanship.

Maria Eife
Maria Eife is a Philadelphia-based jewelry artist. She received a BFA in Metals/Jewelry/CAD-CAM from Tyler School of Art in 2000. She has since been building a practice rooted in both digital and traditional craft. Maria has exhibited across the United States and in Europe, including the Smithsonian Craft Show, Sieraad Art Fair and Jewelers' Werk Galerie. She co-founded JV Collective in 2016 and the group has exhibited at Munich Jewelry Week, New York City Jewelry Week, and at the Baltimore Jewelry Center. In 2017 she won the Excellence in Jewelry Prize at the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show. Ford/Forlano Art Jewelry
Steven Ford and David Forlano have been making jewelry collaboratively in Philadelphia since 1988.
Steven grew up in the Midwest, and studied art in St. Louis, Rome, and Philadelphia. He has been a full time studio artist for the past twenty years. He lives in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, with his partner of fifteen years.
In his career, he partners with David Forlano in Ford/Forlano. Together, the duo merges nature, pattern, and structure to portray fragments of life. However, they often let purpose subside and let the piece take over.

I believe giving doesn't have to be limited to a holiday or special event.

Ann King Lagos is the founder, designer, and creative force behind REALM Fine + Fashion Jewelry, a new category of fashion jewelry made of precious metals with fine jewelry methods and offered at affordable prices. In creating REALM, Ann drew on her innate talents as an artist and sculptor, her experience connecting with a broad spectrum of women in her decade of designing and selling her Ann King line for QVC, and her twenty-five years as co-founder and co-designer of ground-breaking jewelry company LAGOS. Valerie Savarie
The characters I make-the inhabitants of the books-are always painted in black and white, which allow them to live in balance within their predominantly black and white (text and page) surroundings. Sometimes they are animals; sometimes they are more human. Regardless of their species, the eyes typically lend themselves to a more humanistic expression and are the last thing I paint. Eyes tell a story within their own orb and greatly impact the feeling of a piece and so completing them last, I solidify the over all emotion I want to express.
As my book sculptures evolve, I find my work growing beyond short stories, moving towards epic series - generating from a moment in time, page by page, book by book.

Carol Klein
I first studied ceramics in high school. I resumed my work as an Associate Artist at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia. As an associate artist, my early work in mold making and casting evolved from small, functional, translucent porcelain pieces to intricate, larger pieces. This work while functional, or not, has a novel composition. I now share a studio with Lawrence Spitz in Philadelphia. I create my own methods by blending porcelain slip with glass fiber to create textured surfaces in my studio at 319 N 11th Street. Each piece is unique and hand built.
"Fractured" is formed by overlapping layers of glass fiber mixed with porcelain slip. My process is intuitive and I strive to discover new expression for these molten media.

Bruce Hoffman
Bruce Hoffman is Director of Gravers Lane Gallery in Philadelphia. He has been working in the field of studio crafts for more than three decades. During these years he has taught at Moore College of Art & Design, lectured and been a guest critic for many colleges, and has had the honor to jury shows for many fine museums, guilds, and art centers across the country.
Fiber and textile-centric art has been a main focus. Along with five friends, Bruce created and curated Fiber Philadelphia 2012. This four-month event showcased 61 exhibits of fiber throughout the city. Bruce has a historical understanding of studio crafts as well as an appreciation of artists' work and process. This guides his curatorial choices while enjoying the visceral delight of material, color, form, and texture.

Lawrence Spitz
I learned ceramics from Toshiko Takaezu in 1967 while she was Artist in Residence at Princeton University. I was previously an Associate Artist at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia. I now share a studio with Carol Klein in Philadelphia. I create my own methods to capture the beauty of porcelain and the randomness of process that makes each of my works truly unique. This piece is both additive and reductive. I applied multicolored drops of porcelain slip to a rapidly spinning mold that I carved out of a solid block of plaster. I then used industrial diamonds to polish the material to a smooth surface before applying a fine layer of clear glaze.

John Wind
John Wind was born in Israel, raised in Philadelphia, and studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. He is the founder and chief designer of Maximal Art Inc, and John Wind Jewelry, internationally known for his 'Modern Vintage' fashion jewelry and gifts. As a fine artist, he creates symbolic portraits with objects collected from his own life or from his subjects. Wind's work is in the permanent collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Paris, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Claire Rodgers
Ceramic art demands attention to form and surface. I find my form by creating the volume that fills the inside of each piece. The surface is then an extension of this volume, and a canvas for abstracted images that reference landscape and design forms and images from travel.
Claire Shenk Rodgers has been working in and teaching ceramics for over 45 years. Claire was a Resident Artist at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, and is currently on the Board. She founded and directed Washington Square Pottery, a pottery school in Philadelphia, and her interest in ceramic history and excellence caused her to create and lead "Pottery Walking Tours" of both the Philadelphia Art Museum and the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. Claire is also on the Board of the Buck Hill Art Association.

Philadelphia artist Jen Blazina's work represents a sense of holding onto a place in time. Inspired by her grandfather's photography, she blends surreal imagery and found objects in her work. Blazina exhibits her work internationally and nationally.

Chihiro Makio
Chihiro Makio has always loved creating precious little things, even from an early age. Starting as a painter, Chihiro graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art in 2000. There, she developed a passion for three-dimensional materials. Experimenting with wood, fiber, and metals, Chihiro's love of process and fluid design propelled her to earn a degree in glass and minor in jewelry and small metal sculpture.
314Studio was established in 2002, as Chihiro's jewelry designs gained praise and earned her spots in some of the country's most prestigious craft shows. 314Studio's work has travelled around the country, featured in solo, group, and juried shows. Since launching her own company, Chihiro's jewelry and small sculptures have earned her several awards, including four Saul Bell Design Awards (2003 through 2007) and the 2005 Niche Award.

Kevin O'Brien
Kevin O'Brien Studio is a Philadelphia-based textile company. Just across town in South Philly, we have built our own textile manufacturing facility. Fifty-percent artist's studio and fifty-percent factory, it's where we create the majority of our textiles and ship them to buyers around the world. Now, for the first time in our 25 years, we've opened a retail establishment in the Rittenhouse neighborhood. We share a space within the Joan Shepp store at 1811 Chestnut where we show our bedding, pillows, mosaics, and furniture. The remnants of all this cutting and sewing are repurposed as one-of-a-kind stuffed animals. You should stop in to see these cuties! Fabrics that we cannot make ourselves, we make in the world's most acclaimed textile countries - Portugal, Italy, Nepal, and India. Decorators nationwide come to us for a look that they can get nowhere else, and now our fellow Philadelphians can too!

Edgewood Made exists within the intersection of nature and manufacturing. Understanding the space in which these entities coexist is at the foundation of what drives our design. We utilize nature as our inspiration and manufacturing as our medium - following the rules that both set in place, but never allowing for one take over the other. We create goods for every aspect of life in the home. We believe that well-made objects should be a part of our everyday lives, and that these objects should intrigue and draw in the user more and more with each use. Our forms and proportions reference nature and its hidden geometries that dictate how natural structures grow and form shape. Behind our products is a drive to not only bring manufacturing back to America, but also make sure that it is of the highest quality.

Don Miller
Don Miller is a Philadelphia based woodworker, instrument maker and educator. He holds a BA in German form the University of Kansas and an MFA in 3D Design from The University of Wisconsin-Madison. He recently retired as an Associate Professor in the Craft+ Material Studies program at The University of the Arts and inhabits his own workshop in Germantown, PA. His work investigates natural material, functional form and historical technology.
