There are 269 professionals worldwide who have received the title of Master Sommelier since the first Master Sommelier Diploma Exam in 1969. In North America, there are 172, of which 144 are men, and 28 are women.
Emily Pickral
Emily was the 19th woman in the world to become a Master Sommelier. She has spent the last two decades in the wine business, working for importers and distributors, and is currently a Director of Sales for Jackson Family Wines. Before earning her Master Sommelier Diploma in 2013, she won the Rudd
Scholarship in 2010, awarded to the top scorer on the Advanced Sommelier Exam.
Andrew McNamara
Andy McNamara has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Court of Master Sommeliers (Americas) and is currently Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for GuildSomm. He is also Partner
and President of ACE Wine and Spirits, LLC., a full-service beverage alcohol importer and distributor.
Andy received his Master Sommelier diploma in 2007, becoming one of only 16 existing Krug Cup recipients, given to individuals who pass the Master Sommelier Exam on their first attempt with the highest score.
