2014 1001 Napa Valley Proprietary Red.

Our 1001 Proprietary Red Wine represents the best of Napa Valley while being produced in the style of Left Bank Bordeaux houses. The increased use of Malbec gives it a youthful presentation. It is a medium (+) acid, high tannin, full bodied red wine with pronounced aromatics of currants, black cherry, cinnamon, and white pepper. On the palate it has currants, blackberry, and raspberry that continue to a mineral finish.

AuburnJames has been working with fruit from the Bella Vista vineyard in Calistoga since 2006. The block that supplied 28% of the fruit in this blend is east facing hillside fruit that gets great hang time and matures into a bold dark Cabernet. 13% Cabernet Sauvignon was added from Coombsville, where it is cooler and the fruit develops a less fruit forward more old-world complexity that adds to the overall palate impact. The Merlot and Malbec from the La Cerezas valley floor vineyard in Yountville add vibrant red fruit flavors and with both Cab Franc and Petit Verdot, complete our goal of a wellbalanced complex wine. The 2013 wine was aged solely in French Oak and blended four months before bottling in order to ensure complete integration.
