Dementia clouded her mind but the love in her heart was so clear. Even when she didn't know us she knew we loved her. Nine years ago, after my mom was diagnosed, we moved her from Colorado into our home in LA, so we could take care of her. But in the last 6 months, as her dementia got worse, her needs became greater requiring 24 hour skilled nursing care. This disease is heartbreaking, the difficult decisions families have to make are heartbreaking and saying goodbye is the ultimate heartbreak. But we are not alone on this painful path. More than 6 million people in this country are living with Alzheimer's or Dementia. That is why my sisters, brother, husband, daughter and our entire family want to honor her life, love and strength by giving back to the Alzheimer's Association. If you would like to see my mom's beautiful spirit first hand and feel the love that can never be erased by this disease you can click here to watch this video from August when I went to visit her, she didn't know it was me but I felt her love.
