Frenchman Christophe Baron was driving through the Walla Walla Valley when he saw a piece of rocky land that literally brought him to a halt. He bought it and started what is now considered to be one of the hottest wineries around-Cayuse. This bottle of 2011 Cayuse Syrah, Armada Vineyard (RP 98) was made using biodynamic farming methods and promises to be a real treat to whoever buys it.

Chateau Lascombes is a venerated French winery, declared a Second growth in the 1855 Bordeaux classification. It is made up of merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and petit verdot. This bottle of 2003 Lascombes was given 90 points by the Wine Enthusiast and is ready to drink now; but like many other fine Bordeaux, can be cellared until you need to celebrate something.

Rhone Rangers is a term to describe a group of American wine makers, mostly Californian, but also in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Michigan, and Virginia. These six wines from two increasingly popular wineries epitomize that effort. All are limited in production and availability, and as one would expect from the grape varieties: warm, rich, and bold, not to mention delicious. Get them while you can.

Carter Family Wine's Dum Spiro Spero Reserve reflects the highest quality version of their cab blends, dominated by "free run" juice, separated prior to press. Dum Spiro Spero is an elegant, foody Cabernet Sauvignon. The winemaker's approach was to construct the perfect Cab to pair with savory foods. The grapes are sourced from Barr Estate Vineyard in Paso Robles, California. At harvest, the grapes are hand picked and then carefully trucked in refrigeration to Carter Family Wines winery in Greenville, South Carolina where they are sorted, destemmed, crushed, fermented, pressed and aged.
