A refuge for dogs, cats and many other animals in need

The Sanctuary is home to about 1,600 homeless dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, horses, pigs, goats, mules, sheep, burros and wildlife. They come to the Sanctuary from far and wide. Some are ill, some have been neglected or abused, and all are in need of TLC. But once they arrive at this safe haven, they receive everything they need to thrive - physically, emotionally and psychologically. For those pets who aren't eventually adopted, Best Friends provides them with lifetime care.

A special place full of history

Angel Canyon, a mecca for people who love animals and nature, is world famous as the backdrop for dozens of movies and television shows going back to the 1930s, including the popular TV series The Lone Ranger and the movies McKenna's Gold and The Outlaw Josey Wales. Thousands of years before cowboys set eyes on Angel Canyon, the ancestral Pueblo (Anasazi) people built a peaceful and enduring culture and left behind many ancient dwellings and petroglyphs, all of which makes the canyon a compelling place to visit.
